Help with C-IV GOTM 57 for mac

I have repeatedly tried this game and I have been unsuccessful every time. I did download the patch and the HOF Mod. It tells me to load it which I have done through advanced. But still no dice. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is this GOTM the most recent for vanilla mac CivIV? Thanks, Todd...

1. What happens when you try to start the game? A description of the failure symptoms would help.

2. Do you have the latest patched version of Civ4 - version 1.74?

3. Where did you install the HoF Mod? The vanilla one is HOF-MAC-1.74.002, and needs to go in ~/Applications/Civilization IV/Mods/

4. If you load the mod using Advanced->Load a Mod, do you see HOF-Mac-1.74.002 in the top right corner of the main menu screen? If not, the mod isn't loaded.

5. If the mod loads, can you start a new random game (not the GOTM start file), and get to the starting position?

The GOTM Web Site home page lists all the current games and their deadlines. There is also a feed of links to news threads in the GOTM forums that announce the upcoming games.

GOTM 57 is, indeed the current vanilla game, and submissions will close in 5.5 days from the time of this post. The next one is GOTM 58, starting on 1 September. Vanilla games are called GOTMs, Warlords ones are WOTMs, BtS ones are BOTMs.

Alan, sorry for the delay. Out of town for a few. I thought I had followed all of the instructions but apparently the 1.74 upgrade will not take. I go to advanced>check for update where it informs me that there is an update available (1.74). I click download and it downloads (to somewhere) but when I check again after restarting, I get the same update notice. So it's not taking. Not sure how to resolve that one. Thanks again.

You can't update Civ4 using the in-game update menu option. It is linked to the Windows updater, which downloads as a useless file. Check our FAQ thread for other handy hints, this one's in post #7.

You need to get the 1.74 update from Aspyr. The latest Mac version updates are all listed here. I recommend that when you have mounted the disk image, you drag the installer onto your desktop, as the Aspyr installers don't seem to like running from read-only disk images.

Ah! The 57 game loaded successfully! Victoire! I've gotten 58 from the site and will try it later but I believe we've got it! Thanks very much for the assistance and info!
