I just started playing Fall from Heaven & in my last game I made a beeline for the adept/mage/arch mage tech path. 2 of my mages were over 50 experience when I finally researched the tech that allowed arch-mages. Keep in mind I had built these adepts from the very beggining so they were accruing experience the entire game, when I finally got the tech to allow arch-mages there was no option for me to upgrade them!

Does anyone know what exp level you need to upgrade your mages to arch-mages?

One other question, it seemed like my adepts could be promoted faster when I chose the combat1,2,3 upgrades instead of choosing spell lines.

yes what I meant was I couldnt upgrade my level 50 ( 50 experience points ) mages to arch-mages. Does anyone know what experience level mages need to be to be upgradable to arch mages??

In this game I beelined for the arch-mage tech ( its very expensive ) so when I finally got it & couldnt upgrade my mages I was sorely disappointed because I had neglected every other tech in the game so my super arch mages could rule the world = (

Do you have the Reagents resource? IIRC, Archmages require Reagents.

btw, 50XP is not level 50. If I'm right, 50XP is level 8 (which is actually enough to upgrade to archimage, so you're still right to point out that XP is not the problem here). The exact level of a unit is displayed somewhere in the unit details screen.

They are right, its level 4 for Mages and level 6 for Archmages. You need Reagents and the Strength of Will tech to upgrade them to archmages.

And the combat promotions dont help mages gain xp faster. Thats just one of the truisms of math, randomness is only even in extremly large samples. In normal environments it is clumpy and seems to exhibit patterns that dont exist.

Are your adepts actually levelled up? Or are you trying to save promotions for when they are upgraded? That's one problem I had - I wanted to save promotions for the spell-paths I wanted but I didn't realize that I was keeping my adepts below the minimum level necessary for upgrading.

Do you also need a Mage School (forget the building name, sorry) to upgrade? Unless you built Catacomb Libralis, you may have some cities without this building.

Hmm I thought I had reagents but it was like 3 in the morning so maybe I didnt = p

I'll check out the save game when I get home from work, I'm sure everything else was correct but its possible I forgot about the regeants.

Oh one more question do Combat & Mobility promotions on your mages give their fireballs more strenght/range??

Thanks for all the help, this mod is great but has a steep learning curve.

Mobility doesn't, but Spell Extension and Combat do. Spell Extension increases the range of your spells and gives one additional MP to summoned units ; combat increases the strength of fireballs and meteors (I'm not sure it has any effect for other spells) and is automatically given to any summonned unit.

Other summoned units get the caster's Combat promos as bonuses, meaning that it's often wise to have your really tough caster summon all your skeletons, for instance, and just use your other Death units / Tower of Necromancy to provide the ability for you to have those skeletons.

Did that make any sense? Meh.
