I used to be an avid Civ III Conquests / PTW player, but awhile ago both my wife and my computers have each developed a problem...when we try to host a local lan game to share it brings up the screen to set it up, but all the arrows on the drop down menus are missing and thus you cannot setup or start a game. We gave up after a while, very frustrated, but every few months I remember how much I loved Civ and keep trying to get it to work, without luck.
She has since upgraded to a newer computer, laptop...and after a fresh install it has the problem as well!!
All the computers have XP with latest updates, latest sound and graphics drivers, and latest direct X. Both the current computers have 1G of RAM.
We tried reinstalling a while ago, to no avail. We tried again, but somehow our Conquests disk got scratched or something, so we just installed PTW and latest patches. But it still does it.
Basically, can play single player only, and we like to game together.
Any help? Only thing I can think of is that Civ doesn't support the latest Direct X a XP service pack or something, since thats the only commonality between the computers (dif video cards & drivers, dif sound cards & drivers, etc). Or possibly something with our wireless router but I've tried opening up everything I can think of.
I'll continue to read these forums and look for help when I get the urge to play, thanks, and I still <3 Civfanatics! Looking forward to Civ IV !!!
