I have a k6 400 - 128mb and I space enough in disk.
I bought the original civ 3 and he are slow. I use the way 1024x760 but I already tried to place for 800x600 and it is of the same way. I want to know that can do, since it doesn't exist video options.

400 MHZ is a little too slow. Firaxis recommends at least 500 MHZ.

Have you tried disabling unit animations in the preference? You should also disable auto-saves...

Also make sure you disable battle animations in the preferences and try to play on normal or smaller maps with 8 or less civs to max performance.

Huge and large maps with 12-16 civs takes a LONG time.
