Can someone please give me some tips to beat King level? I steam roll Prince, but just can't get it correct on King.

Anything at all that you think would help me -

I play Random Civ, Random Map, Level 5, Standard Map and Standard Time.

Do you make specialised cities? 1 for food (leading to late game specialists and great people), 1 for production, 1 for gold at least. The production city can pump out units all game with all barracks type buildings etc. Also if you have cities next to mountains you can concentrate on science there, cities with wine and incense concentrate on culture there. Maybe you do this already but it is really required to be efficient with your city management at King level (I play King myself but just started beating it by doing this more).

Also have a clear defined plan on how you are going to win and which techs/policies/wonders you want from the beginning. I think that's maybe the next step that you need for higher than King.

What Brichals said works for me as well. Also, do you micromanage your city workers as to the tile they are working? If you aren't doing that, then you must get into the habit of it. They will make the wrong decisions all the time on which tile to work, and most especially they'll probably work the wrong building slot from what you want them to do. Internal city management is a must at King and above, I can't win without doing it.

Actually don't do much of what Brichals and spider1 said and doing pretty well on king and have been trying emperor for a while (with no success but close one).

I rarely micromanage tiles, mostly I switch city to 'production' when I need to build something, and when growing seems too slow I switch to 'food'. I switch on 'gold' when I have negative gpt.

I rarely specialize cities. There are only two kinds of cities for me: core and fillers.

I rarely have a clear plan, just go with the flow. Ofcourse if I want to go for culture then I aim for it from the beginning.

My default plan for the game is kill-rebuild economy-kill-rebuild economy-kill-defend-win by spaceship.

One general warfare strategy that works for any civ is to get rifles way before the AI civs and get an unstoppable lead before turn 200.

One way to go about this is to expand to at least three cities and focus on getting fast NC + universities running scientists. Then tech towards gunpowder. Take liberty and complete all policies. Build an early defensive army, you can use melee type units or archer type.

Use generated GS's along with the liberty finisher, H.Sophia is an option also, to chain bulb to rifling (babylon completes this fastest). Upgrade your army and go on a big push. I imagine this will be pretty strong on king.

Thanks guys! I appreciate everything you've offered to me and will try to incorporate some of this into my next game, which I will be starting momentarily since I"m home from a social engagement.

Please - if you can think of anything else, let me know. I certainly welcome more of the general idea stuff because I've never thought of any of what you have presented.
Again I thank each of you immensely.

Signing RAs can be a big boost, especially if you nab the Porcelain Tower and Rationalism.

Selling Luxury Resources to the AI for cash is a good one (As well as open borders).

I tend to make 3-4 Strong cities and then puppet the rest if I'm warmongering. An early wonder such as Hanging Gardens can result in a strong Capital or a quickly growing 2nd city.

Try not to fill the tech tree vertically (getting all of the lowest requirement techs). Beeline to an important tech, Example: Education, then fill in the rest.

Use specialists to generate Great people faster.

Practice

Play to a civ's strengths, some are stronger on the war front, while others are more culture/science focused. I know you play random civ, but different civs can call for different tactics.
