I had a question for people who are better at civilization than I am. I'm doing ok in a Regent game right now, but I'm having money issues. I'm not sure when it is better to use the science and luxery sliders, and when I should turn people in to specialits to raise money or research.

1) Build more roads
2) Build more cities
3) Use luxury slider as much as possible to handle unhappiness but don't use it for the highly corrupted cities
4) Do not use specialist in core cities, use them in high corruption cities only.
5) If you can be the first to discover a new tech, research. If not, buy tech. Buying tech is cheaper if at least 2 AI already knows the tech.

Yeah, I have a ton of roads already, but I can't build anymore cities because all of the territory has been claimed :(.

Also, it seemed like when I switched to the republic, my money per turn went down... And I thought it was supposed to be better than depositism.

This is common. If you don't have the proper infrastructure to take advantage of Republic, you will find a decrease in income -- the biggest hit is in unit support. If you have 60 units for 10 cities, you are going to take a massive hit when you get to Republic from Despotism. 2gp per turn adds up.
