A usually, when I finished writing the post, netscape closed all my windows. But here it goes again;

Hi
My name is Mathias and I'm working over a scn about Byzantium and mediterrean in VII and first half of VIII century. I would like to ask Fanatics (especially that Apolyton isn't reachable) for help. I need info and images of soldiers of the time (Byzantine, Persian, Avar, Khazar, Slavic, Nubian, early Muslim, Berber, Frank, Longobard, Visigoth, Saxon, English etc...
Also, some images of pre-romanesque buildings in western Europe would be
a nice credit.
Please help?

My other scenarios are Outremer (not too good; about III crusade), Fading Lights (Byzantines XIII-XV century), Komnenai (Byzantines XI-XIII century),
and Mamluks (Egypt in second half of XIII century)

Dba online has decent pics of every major army from 3000BC to about 1500AD. They've clearly used Osprey titles as their main source, which isn't a bad thing as fara as accuracy goes

Thank You very much. It is great site. I love You!!!

Easy there, boy :D It's worth noting that although they've used Osprey books as their source, they usually change colours and they aren't always accurate; but the variety of armies covered is fantastic.

Wrong colours? Well, I can handle it. Still, thank You very much. In fact, Bernd Brosing sent me some of the images I found there once, but I do not recall him giving me a link and I haven't seen the site earlier. It is very nice... I guess gathering resources for units in the scenario is finished. I made some artwork before that, and will show it to You tomorrow, now I'm in Warsaw and I can't. I must learn for my exam in 1,5 months time and I'll have to slow down a bit... But You'll see, I made a nice city style based on pre-renaissance basilica of St Peter in Rome.

I am a great fan of your scenarios! I have played "fading lights" over & over & over again, since it came out, fighting desperately to save the empire!
One of the best events engines ever seen in a medieval .scn!
Very, very accurate, down to city names and all.
I really liked the saint unit...
What's with the frogs? Don't you like French cuisine?

:) :) :)
That's very nice of You.
Especially that the scenario didn't get all that much attention. Thanks for all the praises. Though I must admit the scenario has some faults. As I wrote somewhere there, the map and city placement were very old. I changed the map manually by cheat editor, but couldn't correct everything. And unit graphics are sometimes not at all accurate... But I had not much sources.
I even made some mistakes in the city names :) After a short course of Syriac
of which I remember hardly anything more than the alphabet, and which constituted of reading the Bible and legend of st Abgar, I have no doubt that Orhai is a Syriac, not Greek name. I'm pretty ashamed of this mistake.
Anyway, once again thank You very much. Especially for the mentioning of the events. After the practical lack of events in Outremer, I wanted to make the best use out of them. So... Did You manage to save the Empire?
When it comes to Heraclius, I attach file I was supposed to show weeks ago.
Haven't done much in a while (been on holidays - I took laptop with me, but battery is broke,
and it didn't work in France), and will not do anything in next 3 weeks; I'm supposed to learn
to my exam. If I fail, I'll be thrown out of studies. And the teacher doesn't like me. And he's
the one who is preparing the exam, and the one who is checking it.
But after the exam, unless I'll jump out though the window during it, I'll get back to work.

On the picture, You can sea;
-Avar cavalry (based on a picture posted at Apolyton by someone once)
-Heavy and...
-Light Persian-Sasanid cavalry, based on the book I used while working over Komnenai
-Cavalry and...
-infantry of the same book, "of first Turkish khanate". I was supposed to use it for Khazars,
but as I found a more proper source, it won't be used.

-Slavic grads city style; based on different drawings of grads in Poland, Bulgaria
or wherever.

-Pre-romanesque city style, based on some Irish church, Theoderic's tomb in Ravenna,
some church in... Germigny-des-Pres (checked), and earlier version of St Peter's basilica
in Rome, according to a renaissance (or was it medieval?) drawing (I had some doubts in using
the second and the last, as they are located in places that belonged to Byzantium, and anyway,
when it comes to the basilica, some of the additions shown are undoubtly of later times. But I liked them.

-Sasanid city style (as Stefan Haertel informed me, the palaces were outside the city, and the cities were probably round,
but it was too late and I have little will to change that), based on buildings of Firuzabad, Sarvistan (whatever),
and some other. The biggest one is supposed to be based on Ctesiphon palace, but it will be a hard task.

-Byzantine city style, mentioned earlier. You know, I was supposed to base one city style on St Simon's
basilica somewhere in Syria, but forgot that... And during my trip, I saw a nice book about architecture of Constantine
the Great. But it was in Germany, and the book, though old, costed 18 euro or so. And it is pretty much for me.

-flags (Byzantine, French-not quite correct, but correct according to the legend, Avar, Persian
Khazar. I'll have to work a bit more over them.

P.S.
Everyone loves frogs. Ask Jesus B or M!

The cities in particular are excellent. Ever thought of rehashing Fading Lights - it's one of my favourites as well.

I read somewhere that Heraclius got something like 25.000 Khazar horsemen during his campaign in Persia... Awesome graphics!
About the Byzantine flag, is that the Jesus Christ monogram or the eagle? When did the Cross with the BBBB ("King of kings assist the king") come into use?
You know, the B's on the Byzantine flag could be pagan in origin, as they also represented Artemis/Diana's bow. Guess who was ancient Byzantium's patron deity...
No, I haven't defeated the Turks as the Byzantines yet. That respawning... It's hard as hell to keep anything in Asia Minor, though the Balkans are comparatively manageable. I beat them as the Latins however...

Yes... I think He was besieging Tblisi with them.
I had problems with Khazar civ, as I missed cities for them. I created some "regional" cities
as "Sarmatia" to fill their part of the map, but still, I'll have to make their units extremly strong to make them a valuable ally of Byzantines

Awesome graphics!

Thanks

I don't know. It's the cross on the flag. Yeah, it's not that visible, but that's not quite my fault. You can't
make a nice byzantine cross... To few pixels.

I think it was a goddess of the moon indeed

I did once. Got as far as Taurus in my conquest. In fact, now I play another game, started it while returning
from holidays. I decided to keep my attention on Anatoly instead of Balkans; Except for Kastoria and Monembasia,
all the cities west to Thessalonike are lost to Latins and Serbs. Bulgarians took two cities as well.
But Turkish front looked good this far. Though my conquest of Sinop and Inebolu was temporary (I let the Turks keep
Alanya as a buffor between me and Latins), and I lost Amisos and Pessinus, I managed to take all the |Turkish cities
west to Beysehir (Mugla, Fethiye, Demre, Elmali, Finike, Antalya, Selimiye, Dinar, Afyon and Aksehir). But I didn' take Ikonion, so I'm doomed anyway. But I kind of like that. I prefer to defend heroically than to conquer. My my problem is that one of the minor cities that play a role in event structures was destroyed. I'll have to open the cheatmode and rebuild it. Unfortunatelly, Of course, I can continue the way it is, but it makes no sense - Turks
would conquer Macedonia before entering western Anatoly...

It's hard as hell to keep anything in Asia Minor, though the Balkans are comparatively manageable. I beat them as the Latins however...

Yes, Latin game is easier. And Balkans are easy to conquer, if You focus on them. But fighting in Anatoly gives me more
pleasure than conquering my Slavic brothers...

The cities in particular are excellent.

Thanks..

Yes, but I'd have to start with updating Outremer... And anyway, I have no time.

Okay. I have all units and cities, and some events. Perhaps some play-testing now?
