Hermetic Lore for FFH DI5

Spoiler :
It depends.

Also, can someone else do the editing? Prolonged use of CivIV (aka more than a minute) causes my computer to overheat.

I've thought of some more quest ideas. Here is one that I'm not sure of how to do the mechanics without some minor python code (which I don't really know and requires ppl to download the other filess). So if someone can suggest a work around that doesn't involve python I'd like to hear...

Demon Slayer Quest (for any civ):
Spoiler :
I want to see if civs are loyal to me. I will place a handful of low level demons on the map and any unit which kills at least one of them receives the demon slaying promotion.

Do we have to announce all our plans on here or can we have secret ones?

As said before - if necessary I can handle it when I'm around.

@Bad_Player
What you want to do can be easily accomplished using the world builder;
Place your demons (using an existing unit type on the map)
Rename the demons to whatever you want
Give Verdian the mission
If one of Verdian's units kills a demon, he'll tell us and you give the promo to the killing unit
If a demon is slain and it is not by Verdian, just give the promo to one of the non- Kuriotate units nearby (for the purposes if the game, it doesn't matter if it was another unit that actually killed the demon)

As regards secret plans, it's important to remember the distinction between the Gods as characters and us as players. Everything discussed on this Hermetic Lore thread is OOC.

Esus is the God of Deception, so none of the other God characters should be aware of his schemes unless I describe him discussing (part of) the plan with other Gods on the story thread or it's specifically agreed on this thread that certain other Gods are aware of the plot.
Maybe it's because Esus is so secretive about his plots that I've tried to be very open about discussing ideas. There are a number of reasons for giving the other God Players a heads up on what you are planning:
1 It gives others a chance to give feedback, if what you're proposing is excessive
2 it gives others a chance to make suggestions to help improve on your original idea
3 it allows players to help with how to mechanically implement your idea
4 it avoids conflicts, e.g. Sirona won't have an angel on Bradeline's Well
5 it allows others to see if they can plan to incorporate elements from your story into their own. Knowing that Lugus and Sirona will have prophets in the story saying it's possible to escape from hell means it's one less thing for me to do early in the game.
6 hopefully seeing other people's ideas will stimulate further ideas
7 it also gives an indication of the level of interventions that are planned, providing a benchmark if there is an idea you want to surprise everyone with by first introducing it on the story thread

There are a couple of risks with a completely secret plan, i.e. One that isn't mentioned in this thread first.
If it's seen as excessive or conflicts with another God player's plans there's the chance of different players getting frustrated with the game and either quitting or responding excessively themselves. Empedocles, as Dagda might feel it necessary to intervene to reintroduce balance.

One way to think of a DI game is as a role-playing game in which the distribution of people involved is reversed. Instead of a single gamesmaster, there is a community of gamesmasters (the God players) providing characters and plotlines for the singular player (the mortal player, Verdian) to interact with. Like a role-playing game, there's no winning or losing, there's only keeping it interesting so people want to stay involved and contribute to the story.

OK thx Lplate - that will work although I prefer the L33t python option! ;)

Quest - War on Demons:
Spoiler :
Any nation that declares war on the Infernals (if they enter the game) will have all units blessed and some other bonus (since they probably have access to blessed via Order priests anyway).

I'll PM you (Lplate) to show you the one I want to keep secret and you give me advice on making it public if that's OK.

Lplate I can't seem to PM you? :confused:

Since there were no objections to the Gyra-Laroth plot line (which I summarized in the first thread) I'll be going ahead with that.

Esus' plans fit very well with the goals of Laroth(see summary). Laroth would probably be very gracious to any god who helps him in his aims and would be inclined to help them when(if) he achieves godhood. Grya's main goals will be to stop Laroth and to rid Erebus of necromancy of any form. Any city devoted to Arawn/Gyra will get Arawn's Shrine(Sidar UB for Pagan Temple) which removes access of death mana to the city and gives a free undead slaying to all units.

In my first intervention, I wanted to present the player with a dream revealing the location of the Ruins of Patria. My plan is to move the ruins somewhat close to the player and add a held unit who will act as Gyra's servant.

@Randomness
Do you want to try doing something using Barbatos or the Broken Sepulcher seeing as it's right on the doorstep?

@Bad_Player
You might want to consider how Junil will respond to the entrance of Basium into the world. Will civs declaring war on Basium and the builder of the Mercurian Gate also benefit from the Blessed buff?

@Elder Methyl
In RifE, the Elohim could redeem Bradeline's Well. A possible mission for Verdian after the exodus could be to remove whatever guardian Esus leaves behind, so that the Elohim or another Sirona sponsored group can remove the taint from the Well.

One or two Gods need to plan to give Verdian a settler on turn 50, or at least to give a mission that could result in one. Esus won't be supplying a settler this early.

As the God of War, I probably won't be among those giving him a settler. Like a lot of things I've got in mind for Camulos though, it depends on the relations between God and Mortal.
Speaking of which - I'm going to be putting another post onto the main DI thread that'll present Camulos' activites, or at least hint at certain plans. Comments on it to here, I think.

Okay, I'm now requesting edits:

Spoiler :
- Pool of Tears, Seraphic Pyre, Odio's Prison, Standing Stones, Blue and Purple Dragon Bones, and Mirror of Heaven are to recive Barbarian Angels with the 'Held' promotion and without Orcish.

- Elohim Scout is to be granted the 'Blessed' Promotion.

Made your changes for you. As mentioned over in the actual DI thread, I can't be entirely certain I got the right dragon bones; they're not named by colour but after each dragon (eg Bones of Acheron, etc).
Had to guess, but would I be right in assuming the Purple bones are Abashi (he's the right colour for it) and Blue the blue dragon?
If not, I'll nip in and correct it - or whoever takes the save next can.

Balancing to help Gameplay:

1) The Amurites travel a long way to settle right beside the Kuriotates because their starting location sucks. However that mountain range to the west of the Amurites is an interesting natural border between them (and Bannor and Kuriotates) and the Clan of Embers.

2) The Bannor settle a bit close to Kuriotates so they automatically meet them without exploring. The Bannor should settle farther west of the Kuriotates.
I will have to work out what to do...

I will think of what to do to make the Amurites settle farther north and the Bannor settle just slightly more west.

No, it's okay. I was going for Abashi and the Blue Dragon.

Spoiler :
Wait, found a mistake: I listed the Pool of Tears as one of the first UFs to send an Angel to.

A couple of new ideas for Esus. These both involve the Lanun, so whether they can be used depends on what Danalin (thomas.berubeg) is up to. I must say, I'm a bit curious as to what Danalin will be doing.

Spoiler :

After the Lanun build a Privateer, word reaches Dallarin that some disgruntled Lanun captains have been seeking Letters of Marque from other nations.
I could leave it there, as the rumour could be enough to cast doubt over the ownership of privateers. If feeling generous, I could give a privateer to a couple of non-Lanun nations (i.e. The story is true) or I could give one to the Lanun (i.e. The story is false and was initiated by the Lanun).
If Danalin is planning on giving out some privateers at any stage, I could time the rumour to coincide with this.

Second idea is that on turn 50 or 100, some Lanun seek permission to take up residence in the city of X and work on the nearby oyster beds getting pearls.
If Dallarin accepts them, an improved pearl resource is created on a sea tile near one of the cities.
1 or 2 God Turns later the Lanun demand recompense for all of the stolen pearls that have been traded through Kuriotates markets. The Kuriotates improved pearl resource is removed and an improved pearl resource is created in Lanun waters (this is where the pearls were being stolen from and smuggled over to the Kuriotates). Diplomacy with the Lanun takes hit, extent of damage depending on Dallarin's response.

Another double post
Spoiler :
(if my enthusiasm goes beyond infectious and into offputting, tell me to cop on to myself and I'll tone it down.)

Esus Settlers
Spoiler :

I have come up with an explanation for a group of Esus settlers. Cardith Lorda is going to exile a group of criminals in the same way he banished the Dragon Cultists. I'll probably do this in turn 100 or 150.
A character will point out the risks of accepting them and suggest sending them back, i.e. Verdian could choose to miss out on the Settler that turn and also have to pay for the Settler to be sent back to Cardith Lorda.
Depending on the way Verdian responds, it may make it difficult to explain later Settlers as coming from the Kuriotates homeland.

Some other possible options for settlers:
Spoiler :

Sirona settler: a group of missionaries comes from the Kuriotates homeland to try to discourage the Dragon Cultists from reintroducing these weapons of mass destruction (dragons) into Erebus.
Danalin settler: create a shipwreck on the coast and a named feature beside it. The survivors of the shipwreck (who swore themselves to Danalin to ensure their survival) need to be escorted back. Verdian has to send a unit to the named feature and then return to the capital. Alternatively, a unit has to stay with them to protect them, i.e. needs to stay on the tile til turn 50,100, etc.
Any God: Create a held settler who's trapped by sea/mountains and a held barbarian warrior unit. Kill the barbarian to free the settler. Like in the previous case, we can't remove a held promotion from a settler unit half way through Verdian's turn, so the unit which defeats the barbarian needs to return home to represent escorting the settler or remain to protect them.
Any God: again a held settler unit is used. They refuse to move, so the location of the settlement is pre-defined by the God. Either held promo is removed on next God turn or the God changes the Settler to a size 1 settlement, provided Verdian completes the associated mission.
Camulos settler: a barbarian tribe will only join if they can be defeated and forced to swear loyalty. If Verdian defeats the required units, they get a settler on the tile that the battle was fought on (with a warrior to provide initial defence of the new settlement)
Laroth settler: Scions type settlers emerge at Broken Sepulcher, grave yard or other location.

How do you do Autoplay in Magisters modmod?
