I'm curious how does the High to Low Option work, and at what points do you switch civs?

Thanks,
Bill

See that SG. Basically, as soon as you are the first in score, you switch to someone who's the last. That happens three times.

Yea but .... my question is at what turn does your highest score switch over? sure in SP against emperor that is always down the road, but say in an MP high to low game ... on noble for instance ... when is the line crossed? We were at like turn 30, and the highest player had not switched yet.

I would assume high to low does not work in multi-player, but if it does certainly its rules must be more complex than simply "first to get highest score" or else that would mean first to found a city ... or get a tech from a hut ... XD

High to low is a single player feature only.

So basically we'd have to change a line of coding to make it Multiplayer ;)

Yes and I'm pretty sure it would OOS. Since if you can't switch to Hyborem without OOS'ing then I'm sure you can't switch any other civ.

it could OOS, sure .... but if it at least works, then you can always rehost after someone switches. The person that switched just needs to rejoin as the person they switched to.

Hrrm. It might only work if each time someone switches, the switcher's save is the save that needs to be rehosted. In this case a game would only be possible if everyone is capable of supporting a host for everyone else. (which is not always the case)

You could always email the game from the switcher to the host to reload.

I've been wondering... when you reach the high and switch to the lowest, does that include vassals?

My understanding is that you become the weakest player. Any vassals stay with your buffed up old civ.

No, I do not think so. You become the leader of the lowest score team, if I imagine correctly. So if everyone was a relatively strong civ, with a super weak vassal, you would become the weakest of the strong civs, with a super weak vassal of your own.

Your vassal is not a member of your team.

You can't become a vassal, so how could you switch over to one? Do you have to conquer your vassal to win conquest? If not, then they probably count as your team without actually being on it, which means you can't switch to them.

yea, thats exactly what I meant. Aka their scores are currently counted together.

In my first forray into High to Low, I started as Dain, then switched to Arturus Thorne, then when I first tested a switch, I switched to Doviello, who were at war with everyone and the vassal of Dain.

I reloaded an older save, replayed the next few turns, and lasted until the Mercurians were founded. Naturally when i catapulted to #1, i took over Basium in alliance with the Hippus.

Based on this investigation, you CAN become someone's vassal and be expected to win.

Good research, I am glad we now know more in how it works. This is interesting.

My favorite High to Low game was when I had just killed off the orcs (but req complete kills was on) and was going for Hyborem, when I hit first score, and switched to .... The Orcs?!!! Yes, they had ONE worker deep in friendly (my former enemy) territory. I cast the world-spell, and it netted me a city.

Needless to say, I was not feeling particularly patient, so I finished killing off the orcs and switched to Hyborem like I had been planning. However, had I stayed with that civ, it would of been at least hilarious, and the kind of FUN you get while playing Dwarven Fortress xD
