Hints That Religion Won't Be Returning?

Pasrafrarianism may well be that, but seeing as, for example, Muslims 'hate' (you know what I mean, I just can't find the right word) Christians, saying Islam instead of Pastafrarianism would offend all Christians? No! Well, some may be offended, but that would be their fault. They 'choose' to be offended by it. I can't really explain it (I'm not a native English speaker), but I hope you get what I'm saying.

A random definition of mocking (from the internet):

To treat with ridicule or contempt; deride.

In my opinion, he didn't treat religion with ridicule or contempt, so he didn't mock people. Perhaps you think he did, and I can accept that, and I'm not trying to start a flame war or something, but if you think he offended you, you're stupid.

*Cue flame war, infractions, trolls, and the glory of political correctness and freedom of speech - wait, freedom of speech? Better hope I haven't offended anyone!*

But that's just my view on things... I am of the opinion that anyone is allowed to say anything they want (and things like shouting 'FIRE!' in a crowd is of course wrong and falls under a law like 'disrupting public order', if people die because of that, the one who shouted it preformed a murder and is thrown into jail). Couple that with the fact that I often express myself in a wrong way, and yeah...

So (and I think it's sad I'm writing this sentence), I didn't try to offend you, I gave my opinion. If that opinion offends you, then that's too bad, but it is my opinion and it wasn't my goal to offend you.

*Cue apocalypse*

I'm not denying anyone's free speech. I'm saying we need to personally hold ourselves responsible for what we say (politeness).
The very mention of including Pastafarianism in civ 5 is to ridicule or deride religion, since it is equating PFism with other real religions.
And like I said, PFism is a parody religion.

Politeness is good, of course, but expressing your opinion is better. :p

Anyway, what is the difference between a real religion and a fake religion?

To atheists, all religions are fake, and to Christians, Islam and all other religions are fake. Fake meaning 'not true'.

Fireaxis doesn't understand abiogenesis and Fireaxis doesn't know God.

It fits in streamlined/simplified Civ to leave it out.

That may or may not be the case with this specific item, but I don't think so. It's true that some Civ IV stuff is still in the xmls. I think this is pretty common in any software though, old stuff from previous versions just kind of hanging around, in many cases doing nothing.

Religion was in Civ V at one point, but they removed it. Here's why. Stupid reason if you ask me, but I'm past it at this point.

I doubt it will return in an expansion because I doubt there will be an expansion. Or a sequel.

I doubt it will be in DLC because it's not easy, like just adding a new civ.

Why do something hard for $5 when you can do something easy for $5.

I still don't get how "we wanted diplomacy to have more depth and not be so predictable" goes together with Civ5 diplomacy, where you only can DoF, denounce, DoW and trade (that moronic trade system that has no effect on your relations). Where is depth in that? I'm still looking for it... And I'm not even talking about how broken those existing actions are...

the intent behind them. "Pastafarians" don't believe in the flying spaghetti monster. Christians believe in Christ.

and expressing your opinion is good, but only when necessary, not when trying to grief people.

But I'm not trying to grief (is that a verb?) people, I'm simply stating my opinion, and instead of typing a thousand words to convey it as a polite message, I do it directly and perhaps bluntly, but well...

Ok, I can see where you're coming from, but still I think you're making way too much of The_J's post.

We're having a nice, civil discussion (or at least, I am)... There's no need for us to chill. :p

Anyway, it may be wiser to move more on topic indeed. As such, I liked religion, but I don't care wether it comes back or not. Civilization V is doomed anyway, and I probably won't be playing it ever again. With Facebook Civilization coming, one can only wonder at the fact that it's 2011 and not 2012...

I don't think that Muslims hate Christians. Infact Quran states that the closest people in unbelievers are those who call themselves Christians. The fights between Muslims & Christians are mostly because of political reasons such as Crusades (to get control of Holy Cities = more land etc), US wars (for oil & establishing puppets instead of annexing :D) etc.

i was making a lot out of it because he's always getting his panties bunched up about other posters.
at first, I was just pointing out the irony.

Moderator Action: Back on topic, please.

Ah, ok.

And Babri, I know that most indeed don't, and most of the rest probably hates anyone who isn't a Muslim (thus including Christians), but I couldn't think of another word.

Yes, back on topic.

I hope religion returns... so they can make an atheist religion that believes (with faith) that all life came from a bowl of primordial soup! Perhaps Isabella holding a can of Campbell's would do nicely.

As Campbell's says:

Disclaimer: I seriously hope they do implement an atheist religion as well as all other religions in a future update. It would be a fun play.

He probably says that because we just had a discussion about much the same thing. :p

Why do you sau 'here we go again'? Has he offended you? Why? Are you a religious moron? brxbrxbella? brxbrxqob? brxbrxdin? You're really stupid, you should be put in a detention center or something...

Obviously, that was sarcasm...

Moderator Action: Not that obvious for others. Next time, please go without insults.

As an atheist, why do you care so much and put so much anger towards things you don't have any proof to disprove? Why do you put so much faith in what you believe (or don't believe), but hate everyone else that has a different view? ;)

Obviously, that was sarcasm...

Enough joking around already... I'm done. ;)

I can't believe I'm the only one who hasn't gotten an infraction at this point in the discussion.

I would like to think that they'll bring back religion, but with even more depth, such as with schisms (Orthrodox/Catholic, Catholic/Protestant, Sunni/Shia- but with more freedom). Also I'd like a mandated atheism civic, like they have in China. I also think that religions should be vaguer, with real-world analogs only if the player wishes it (just like how cities are named: you can choose the name but one is already suggested for you). To found a religion, you would need a prophet. Then the religion would evolve on it's own with a little control from the player (King Henry VIII, for example, made his own sect of Christianity).

On the subject of civics, where's the option for free trade? We've got mercantilism, protectionism, planned economy, socialism, trade unions, and communism ... but no option for international trade, not even with city states. Why not?

At least with religion we've got something, in the form of a social policies tree.

I'm drunk and i don't want to labour this but atheism isn't anti-religion, its just opposed to the idea of deities. Deities are not a necessary condition for religions, and religions can exist without teleology

maybe the cross becomes the holy symbol of Islam,
 I like this solution the best!

"Brother, the cross represents how Allah introduced his prophet at the intersection of the world! From the middle, we go each direction to teach the Qur'an"

Stuff like that.
It will be tougher for the other screen shots.
