Can something be done to tone down the hippogriffs, They are ridiculously annoying and difficult to get rid of. Firstly they can make weirs on any terrain, so it can be very difficult to destroy the ones on mountains and in the ocean, especially when it a one tile lake. Then they have a ludicrously high move and withdraw which makes them hard to actually kill as they can just attack and then retreat to a nearby peak or water tile

And they are ridiculously useful, and quite weak so they are nothing but a nuisance.

Seriously, Hippogriffs? Not the mountain climbing, border spawning, terrain ignoring, fast moving, country invading, worker stealing, pest that is trolls? Or the awfully strong Minotaur? Or for that matter, the ridiculously strong animal packs that can spawn after only one combat (seriously, they should never have had the ability to grow after combat only, it makes then too much of a pest to remove, and in some cases pretty much impossible to remove until ranger)?

My current agony, is caused by the spider people, which name I presently cannot remember. Spider swarms are quite easy to produce, and are far too strong. Should not be tied with combat. XP mayhaps, but not combat alone.

I once had a bear roaming though some unoccupied land with 18 base strengh, i was playing without animal invasion so he did nothing but defend my borders and since i was going for an altar victory i couldent be bothered as he was acctualy usefull.

I've started a few games recently and just turn animals off. Otherwise I wind up with a Str 18 invisible cannibal saber-tooth killing everything.

The Archos spiders don't upgrade with combat for the next version, rather they get a spell when their Nest (capital) has reached a population sufficient to spawn the next level up. Spider Armies come in at 24 pop... Harder to get to. ;)

I realize that there are more annoying and dangerous animals, but I was under the impression that they would be toned down at next up grade. can they at least lose their ability to create weirs on water tiles.

Yay! The next version does seem to promise a lot.

What I meant was that the hippogriff is so useful, that when I find one, I usually end up farming it. Such a useful beast, should be a little difficult to get. (though it is very annoying to see spawnpoints in mountains)

Actually, in the Beta (I can say that, can't I?) animals and barbs look quite balanced and "rational".

I like hippogriffs, they're weak and never die. My soldiers get exp for fighting them even when they don't die, so if there's a weyr near my cites I leave it and let the hordes come.

I like hipogriffs as well, they give you a lovely building if you capture them (especially for scions, need all the gates you can get for the far empire).

Sidenote: would it be possible to build animals from a city once their special building is built?

Perhaps as limited national units? (or world units, force you to hunt down others to build your own)
