Historical Monuments and Flags

there were many moments in my game where great battles went on.
many defenders killing many attacker sometimes
few defenders killing many attackers sometimes
many attackers killing many defenders...etc

on a single square historical times were shaped by the destruction of many units. should there not be some sort of relic or monument reminding the player of his greatness for example..
on this spot during 1450 ad 51,279 swordsman were sacrificed in the glorious battle of the "xxxxxx"
or
this site marks the victorious army of "xxxxxx" when his armies crushed "xxxxxx" evil forces totalling over 158,000 men.

i would really like to be able to decorate the country side with flags, banners, historical relics and maybe some statues of myself. even flags on top of moutains is a vision i hold dearly. Im not saying make the flag half the size of the mountain but a little thing waving on it would really bring a tear to my eye as my people sing the national anthem. :king:

ONE MORE THING
there should be troop stats. we should get numbers of troops in units instead of pretending. as well as color coded health bars which already exist. numbers on confirmed kills too would be nice.

there is so much one can do to this awesomly crafted game, its just a matter of what they do first.

I really like the idea to remember historical battlefields. This should be marked without building a monument and would work automatically. It would become a tourist site and would increase trade.

I would like more stats with that type of thing too.

"there should be troop stats. we should get numbers of troops in units instead of pretending." What does this mean?

It would definately be a nice feature. I would also like to be able to make signs myself to remember where i wanted to put that city or where I was going to attack.
There is however many other important things so this isn't first priority features.

Cool! I'd love to see little additional features poping up all over the countryside to remind everyone of the glory days ... perhaps where GLs where made?

Hey Brinco... what a good idea! And to glorify even more our militaristic efforts and conquests it would be nice if there were classifications about "The Best and More Exciting Battle of History"!
What do you think??

MM

I second (or is it fourth) this idea. It would be lots of fun. It doesn't seem like it would be hard to do either.

to follow up searcheagle

i would like to see some stats showing a units history,
-how many units they have slayed,
-what rank they are compared to other units in army
-number of men died serving unit

stuff like that giving more of a personal feeling for a unit.
this would be exciting to try and rescue a specific unit in enemy territory because of its outstanding history.

what does gl stand for

GL means Great Leader. In this context it would refer to a great Military Leader, or a general being formed.

They have a chance of being formed everytime an elite unit wins a victory. This chance is greater with a militaristic civ.

I like this sort of idea, giving you little bonuses and rewards for things. Even if they don't actually give you much benefit, it would be nice to know that you've gone down in history for something! Things like a particularly bloody battle, or a military victory against the odds, or being the first to discover an uninhabited continent.

After all, people still celebrate Christopher Columbus, and go and visit the sites of battles like Waterloo and even Marathon. The effect on gameplay would be small, but it would be a nice touch to look forward to when nothing much else is going on in your game.

wouldn't it be cool if when two super powers go to war, a little video clip plays, perhaps Churchill doing his 'we will fight them on the beeches' speach or somesuch ... not everytime, just some triggers in the game for little extra bits to give it some more depth and context.

Not to bore evryone with my SMAC addiction, but I loved those little quotes and extra bit of depth that it gave, more immersive in the game world, it feels real rather than a fancy spreadsheet ... ;)
