Hittites had sewers.

Hi Pie,

I was asking myself what was the design motivation behind the creation of Special Building [I to X]. I assume it is to give more UB than normal to a specific number of civilizations historically having the building like the sewers.

The group Special Building XI intrigued me. It includes the forum, agora, ziggurat and deffufa and every of these ones are pre-requisite of the Romanum Forum.
Although I understand the Agora is equivalent of a roman forum, I confused by the inclusions of the ziggurat and deffufa. The ziggurat seems to be a shrine on top of a step building, for the clergy be isolated from the masses when doing their rites and libations. Also used as high level protection against floods. It doesn't really hold as equivalent as a forum/agora. While the forum/agora holds for a place of markets and gathering place of both elites and intellectuals. The ziggurat was strictly for the clergy.

The nubian deffufa [of Kerma] function is still under debate, but the military function is excluded by now. The common school of thought believes it is a place of cult, but also holds as a stock place. In other words, people made their cult there, plus it was a "marketplace". So, it has simarities with the forum or agora.

The ziggurat is somehow the interesting inclusion and if one player got his/her hand on the roman religion, the romanum forum is build-able. I don't have a problem other civilizations can have this roman wonder (as fetching a religion is a difficult process), but if I understand well, the agora/deffufa/forum are standing for public places for both cult, intellectual debates and marketplaces.

Then, it should cover some other civilizations. Take for instance the assyrian trade post (a.k.a. "Karum") around which city-state kingdoms were created. For instance, the anatolian karum, Kanesh is one of the biggest public place for trade. Originally assyrian, it was later captured by Pithana (earliest Hittite king known by his son tablet: Anitta Text). Then, both those civilizations should have access to the Romanum Forum.

In fact, all civilizations should have access to it as long one has the roman religion. Then, perhaps the building pre-requisite building shall be deleted. To an extent, I'm pretty all civilizations had their public place for trades and meeting but records of them are either inexistant or lost.

:)

BTW, I reiterate the mod is fantastic. When into ancient history, this mod is an "incontournable".

hoi Capac, ;)

Feel embrassé for the incontournable! :D

So, the special building I-?. Yes, I did this for buildings that are not comparable with other special buildings of other civs. So, those special buildings have NO commonness.

I didn't want to specialise the market as an Agora or a Forum Romanum, because:
1) everybody had a market - as you said before - and those first markets were long before the "special" form of Agora and Forum
2) as I said, the Agora and Forum - in its form - came more lately and should be a "second" market, I think. The small market for small settlements on, and the bigger ones with the city state. that's my intention.

of course, when you find terms of "bigger" markets of other civilizations, I WILL seperate the Agora and Forum to this new special building "big market".
