HOF Questions & Answers

Can I play in offline mode for HOF submission, or am I required to have an active Internet connection connected to Steam while I play? It would be nice to play CiV when I travel and submit games for HOF when I return home.

Nope, you don't have to be connected.

Correct. We don't get any value-add from Steam. Just make sure you keep your patch level up-to-date over time. We like for players to all be at approximately the same patch. The most current one that is. ;)

I play online at home which keeps the game up to date. I just wanted to know if I could play in offline mode on my laptop when I travel and submit the games after I get back. I'm happy that the answer is yes.

Ok, so I moved all my DLC folders from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets\DLC
to a completely different directory except for DLC_01 and Shared (DLC_01 being the free DLC mongols and Shared being part of the update which included Stone as a resource) and yet when I submitted I got the "No mods allowed" e-mail rejecting my submission.

Do I have to move "Shared" out of the directory also? Could we have instructions in the FAQ on how to disable all the DLC's?

Thanks.

Strange, I have those two maps too and I don't get any rejections... Maybe ask why they were rejected. Perhaps the wonders appear the the shared?

Just wondering - how ties are resolved for a medal?

Say two people each submit a game, both are fastest finishers, finishing in turn 15, and both with exactly the same hof score.
Do they both get a gold?
Do they both get silver?
Or is there a way to resolve the tie? Do you then look at each of the two players next best score in the table to decide?

I think it is who submitted it first.
The chance that they each did at the same second is very small.

If the games are submitted are the same turn and same score, both will be awarded the same medal (gold/silver/bronze).

Is there a way to see all the Time Victory Conditions games? There is a Victory Condition report option, but it doesn't include Time, just the other four VCs.

There is a dropdown to select either date or score tables. Time shows up when you select score. It didn't make sense on date since the finish date is always the same. :crazyeye:

After accidentally picking Spain 3 times in my submitted games (including a Huge Standard Time victory =/) I triple checked the list of playable civs...and it does not show America on the list of allowed civilizations...I'm assuming its just a mistake? Cause America is a vanilla civ.

America is allowed :)

Yes America is okay. I update the list. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I've posted some questions here this morning, but that posting is gone...

Guess I'll try again:

-Why does one have to submit 4 savegames for Gauntlets but only 1 for the GOTM/TSGs?
-How am I supposed to handle my autosaves? Autosave on every turn? Keep 400+ autosaves (or thousands if I play several games in between)? Any recommendations for this?
-The 4 savegames required for gauntlet submissions are supposed to be from turn1, 1/3 of the game, 2/3 of the game and the final turn. Does this have to be totally exact or is roughly a save from around 1/3 and 2/3 good enough?
-I've read somewhere that we aren't supposed to upload autosaves but rather manual saves as these files actually are slightly different and autosaves might cause problems at retrieving the replay data (analysis or whatever you are doing with it). That confuses me... I can hardly be expected to do a manual save every turn...?

I'll try to answer some questions.
The GOTM/TSG is still in training, meaning that they are not playing for points or anything. For Gauntlets they do. They also need enough autosaves to check your game to see if you play according the rules.

When you play a new game, the old autosaves will get overwritten. So you don't have to look at it. But you have to keep them until your game is accepted.

Roughly is good.

I always send the autosaves. Never had any problem or comment with it except the last save of course.

Peets has it right.

There may be differences between an autosave and manual save. I haven't heard. GOTM does somethings with replays that we don't. Final saves are always manual saves so we should be good there, in any case.

Alright. Here's one more. Rules currently say this:
Downloadable Content (DLC):
DLC Civilizations cannot be played or used as opponents unless noted here. Other DLC content is not allowed unless specified. Allowed: Mongolia (Genghis Khan) DLC

When I click on the DLC button of a savegame it lists all DLC I got as needed for that save, even though I did only chose vanilla civs (for a gauntlet game). Do I have to disable the DLCs before I start a game (don't even know how to do that) or is the rule only made so everyone can take part in these games without a disadvantage; so as long as I don't chose any DLC civs (except mongols) it's fine?
Then again the wonders of the ancient world are actually in that/these games (TSG), which further contributes to my confusion.

PS: Under the "Disallowed" Tab of the HOF rules page it says "Advance infromation" (3rd cat from the top). So a typo in 'information' plus I think it also should be 'advanced' here ;)

As long as you don't have any DLC Civs in your game you are fine with regards to that.

That DLC folder should be moved somewhere outside the civ5 path when you play for HOF submission. If you move the rest than more people would be able to open your saves. but it isn't required.

One of my more consistent typos. The irony is that when I write SQL I constantly type form instead of from. ;)

Advance is probbaly correct. I would have to look at the context to be sure.
