HOLY CRAP (Scary graphic glitch)

I seem to have stumbled upon a scary graphic glitch. Occasionally when a leaderpic pops up on the diplomacy screen, for a split second at the very beginning, the eyes and teeth will be rendered in front of the face (similar to the "cheshire cat" error, only the rest of the face is behind the teeth and eyes). This doesn't sound so bad, but the fact that it appears only for a split second really makes it rather frightening. The first time it happened, it was Monty's leader head (and he's already scary enough as it is) and I nearly jumped out of my chair because I was so freaked out, but by the time I could blink, it was gone. It's happened a couple other times since then. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this or how to stop it? I can post system specs if you think they will help. Thanks for any advice.

System specs are irrelevant. If Civ4 works or not is just a matter of luck.

oh that happens to me all the time. esp. w/ tokugawa. weird.

Yeah, like that, but just for a split second. And also with other leaders as well.
