So, we all know the quest. I have to build 22 religious buildings (temples and monasteries) which will allow whoever it is to discover the location of the Holy Mountain, so I can settle near it. Needs to be done before I reach industrialism... So on and so forth.

I've only completed it one time though. For some reason it won't ever allow me to complete it (except for one time). In my current game I have 29 of these religious buildings built, and it's only asking for 22. Yet it won't register as complete. This has happened many times. Any advice?

Building the religious buildings doesn't complete the quest, it just tells you which peak is the holy mountain when you hit that number. If you are not paying attention at the time it tells you and miss it, you should be able to scroll back through the event long and click on the entry about it to see which one it is (clicking on entries in the event log that are associated with locations will center the display on the location).

To complete the quest you have to get that peak to be within your borders. The reward is not worth going very far out of your way to get.

Well, I went back and checked and it looks like it never said the location had been discovered. I have more than enough buildings. I always watch closely (more and more closely every game since it hasn't worked since the first time). I have the buildings, but it just isn't happening.

I've never gotten this quest. What is the reward?

1 happy face for all your cities.

Maybe you can't get the location of the mountain because its already in another civs borders?

Thnx.

Maybe? Wouldn't it at least tell me that? I'm about to research industrialism and it hasn't said anything to me. I now have countless of the required buildings, but still no word. Oh well. I'm not worried about it. Was just curious why it wasn't working.

Are you sure the quest is still active? I think it ends if someone else gets the target peak into their borders. If it is still showing up on the quest tab of the event log then it is still active, if it does not show up then it is not.

The notification is a one time event. Unfortunately, it occurs to me now that some things "fade away" out of the event log so there is no way to track them down again. I think the results of random events (including quests) are in this category, so they may disappear from the event log after a few turns (3 or 5 or something like that).

RE: fade away

If I scroll down in event log ...
... the game reads the hard drive and fills in the log all the way back to start
... unless my window is already bigger than the current set of events

You can scroll back to the beginning of the game, but there will be messages missing. For example, try to look for combat results from earlier turns. I think you wont' find any. That doesn't mean your scout wasn't eaten by a bear 200 turns ago, it just doesn't tell you about it anymore. Some disappear pretty much immediately (they are gone the next turn) and some seem to disappear shortly after that.

This used to really cheese me off,but thats why I don't play with quests.I love them, but the problem is when it is won by someone else you have to know them to have it appear that the quest is over.

For example lets say your England and you have the quest for the horses. If someone lets say China builds the recommended amount of stables before you they get the bonus, but your still in the dark because you never met them.

Its been awhile since I played with events, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, it was still showing up in the list until I reached industrialism. I knew everyone before the quest even started. I mean, I don't really care for the quests much, I usually ignore them. But if I do complete one, I'd at least like to get whatever tiny reward it gives. Weird.

It depends. If you sync all those religious buildings with AP you could have a real advantage that will last the rest of the game. Its like you built the Sistine Chapel for free and if you build AP...you can use the bonus hammers for more troops or Space Race.

Again its how you sync things up that make it useful in the long run.

The mountain was probably off on some obscure little island out in the tundra.

I got that quest once, where it appeared in the middle section of the donut map, 3 tiles in.
I would have had to build a city right up against the inner mountain wall and get my 3rd culture radius to reach it. With all of the poor mountain tiles I would have had, it was just not worth it.
