Holy Roman Empire

Ok, here are some ideas for ressource placement: I used a resource map for central europe around 1500 AD, so no "modern" resources (like uranium) are in this list. Because my map is a german one I used mostly the german names for the cities.

Coal (with historic reference):
- Namur
- Lüttich
- Maastricht (all three in Belgium today)
- The "Ruhrgebiet" (roughly between Duisburg and Dortmund)

Coal (without historic reference):
- The "Saarland" (around Saarbrücken)
- East of Brunswick (Helmstedt)
- Between Halle, Jena and Leipzig (the "Mitteldeutsches Revier")
- South of Cottbus (the "Niederlausitz")
- In Lower Silesia (around Katowice)
- Half way between Chemnitz and Prague (the southern side of the "Erzgebirge" [it means "iron mountains"])

Iron: (with historic reference)
- The "Rothaargebirge" (north east of Siegen)
- Lüttich (Belgium, seams to be a spot for the "iron works")
- Neuchatel (Swiss)
- Suhl (the "Thüringerwald")
- Amberg (roughly between Nürnberg and Regensburg)
- Erzberg (roughly half way between Salzburg and Vienna, better a little south of this line)
- Friesach (Austria)

Iron: (without historic reference)
- Lorraine (possibly two: one around Nancy, one north of Metz)
- one between Pilsen and Prague
- Czestochowa (Poland, makes another "iron works" with Lower Silesia)

Gold: (with historic reference)
- Gastein (Austria)
- Bergreichenstein (in the "Böhmerwald" between Bohemia and southern Bavaria)
- Eule (south of Prague)
- Reichenstein (in the "Sudeten" between Lower Silesia and Bohemia)
- north of Budapest (around Kremnitz and Schemnitz)

Copper: (with historic reference)
Copper should be a strategic resource too. I've seen some mod using copper as a requirement for building some units. Could be interesting for this mod.

- Goslar (in the northern "Harz")
- Mansfeld (in the southern "Harz")
- East of Innsbruck (Austria)
- Possibly two north of Budapest (around Kremnitz and Schemnitz)

Silver: (with historic reference)
This could be a nother consumable good. It shouldn't be too dificult to change the gold resource graphics into silver ...

- Goslar (in the northern "Harz")
- Mansfeld (in the southern "Harz")
- Freiberg (in the "Erzgebirge")
- Karlsbad (Bohemia, south of the "Erzgebirge")
- Mies (west of Pilsen, Bohemia)
- Kuttenberg (southeast of Prague)
- Iglau (between Prague and Brünn)
- Silberberg (Lower Silesia, south of Breslau)
- Friesach (Austria)
- Innsbruck (Austria)

Wine:
- possibly two around Straßburg (both sides of the Rhein)
- Mosel (roughly between Trier and Koblenz)
- Between Frankfurt(Main) and Würzburg
- North of Prague (around Melnik)
- Around Trient and Bozen (Austria/Italy)

I also have some ideas for other luxury goods, but we should find some new graphics for those (like glass, cloth, wool or linen.

Here are some ideas for the available resources and their effects. I love the effects of resources on the gameplay of CivIII. Many resources on your map would be nice, Blackadder.

Consumable Goods:

Cattle (Orig. Cattle):
F +2; S +1; C +0

Fish (Orig. Fish):
F +2; S +0; C +1

Game (Orig. Game):
F +1; S +0; C +0
[The Nobility loved to hunt them, but common people were not allowed to ...]

Sheep (Orig. Whales):
F +1; S +0; C +2
[Never seen any whales at the North Sea, although there should be some]

Wheat (Orig. Wheat):
F +3; S +0; C +0
[One more food compared to civIII]

Salt (Orig. Gold):
F +1; S +0; C +2
[gold is now a luxury resource]

Strategic Resources:

Lumber (Orig. Aluminium):
F +0; S +1; C +1
[We should make this a resource requirement for all ships]

Coal (Orig. Coal):
F +0; S +2; C +1

Horses (Orig. Horses):
F +0; S +1; C +1
[No shields for horses in original CivIII, but I think they deserve one shield for replacing manpower by horsepower]

Iron (Orig. Iron):
F +0; S +2; C +1
[only S +1 and no C in orig. CivIII, but that's really nothing for the probably most important strategic resource]

Copper (Orig. Oil):
F +0; S +1; C +2
[I have to think about what unit requires this resource by the time of the holy roman empire]

Rubber
[no change, but don't place it on the map]

Saltpeter (Orig. Saltpeter):
F +0; S +0; C +1

Uraniun
[no change, but don't place it on the map]

Luxury Resources:

Dyes (Orig. Dyes):
F +0; S +0; C +2
[One more C for balancing with linen]

Furs (orig. Furs):
F +0; S +1; C +1

Gems (Orig. Gems):
F +0; S +0; C +4

Linen (Orig. Incense):
F +0; S +0; C +1

Glass (Orig. Ivory):
F +0; S +0; C +2
[no elephants in germany ;-)]

Gold (Orig. Silk):
F +0; S +0; C +4
[Orig. a consumable good in CivIII, don't know why, but I need more luxuries, so I changed it]

Silver (Orig. Spice):
F +0; S +0; C +3

Wines (Orig. Wines):
F +1; S +0; C +1
[Didn't know that wines give one food in orig. CivIII, but it's cool]

Here is the changed resource.pcx with new graphics . I don't know how to insert it here, so i attached it. There is a resources_shadows file in CivIII, but I'dont know how to adapt it to the new resource.pcx. I will do the historic placement for the rest of the resources later.

I found another map with some information for the placement of resources:

- Brussels and Ypern (Belgium)
- Mönchengladbach (near Düsseldorf)
- Osnabrück
- Bielefeld
- Konstanz
- Ulm
- Augsburg

Glass:
- Lüttich

- Prague (no reference on the map, but i think they should get one)
- Augsburg (reference only to "arts and crafts")

- all around Flandres (between Calais, Arras, Cambrai, Brussels and Antwerpes)
- Leiden, Rotterdam and Amsterdam
- Osnabrück
- Duisburg
- Cologne
- Aachen
- Straßburg
- Ulm
- Konstanz
- Augsburg
- Hof (in the "Thüringerwald")
- Zwickau
- Chemnitz

Salt:
- Lübeck
- Lüneburg
- Werl
- Dieuze (near Metz/Lorraine)
- Heilbronn
- Hall (in Württemberg)
- Staßfurt (near Magdeburg)
- Halle
- Salzungen
- Salzburg
- Hall (near Insbruck/Austria)
- Hallstatt (near Salzburg)
- Wieliczka (near Crackow)
- Bochnia (near Crackow)
- Kolberg (Pommerania)

Blackadder, are you still there? What's with your map? Are you already working on it? If the placement of the resources is to difficult without my map, I can do that for you.

Sorry Lares, but I don't think I can do this. I'm coming up to an important time (my GCSE's) and have tryed to make a map, but run into a difficulty. I have tryed to make the map look like Germany and the surrounding territories but have failed, I must have compressed it ! Since there are no cities placeable, I changed ice (or is it tundra?) into 'borderland' to try and map out where everything is.
My apolegies if I can't finish this scenario, but I will try and help with ideas or work if I have spare time...

Posted below is my attempt on a normal map.

Okay lets change tactics, start simple and build on that. I start work on this again, now I have some free time, inbetween learning for the G.C.S.E.

First step, better map
Second step, we start with randomised resources, and build on that when the prototype is ready.
Third step, special units will NOT be first priority, we ccan think of them afterwards.
Fourth, leader heads etc, to be reviewed upon a later date.

Now for the help, which mods could help us create this scenario?
Listing of them will undoubtedly help me and others in the future.

I have been restricted to visiting on weekends on the internet, and that will usually be off-topics. PM me for any additional info if you think I will need it.;)
