I recently began hosting two pitboss games on the same computer I'm using to play both in those games as well as single-player games. Everyone is able to connect and play normally, but I noticed that each time I start one of the pitboss games, it deletes all of the saved game folders in my default location (C:\Documents and Settings\icefire34\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Saves) and copies them over to its pitboss location (C:\pitboss1\Saves or C:\pitboss2\Saves) instead. Is there a way I can have the pitboss games use only their own folders for loading and saving game files?

thanks!

when you are running multiple pitboss windows they use the same location for all the saves. It should not delete old folders but rather make new ones for very instance of pitboss dll, but it will put auto saves of all games in the latest created folder.

It should not be a problem though as long as the games do not have same dates in which case it will overide the saves from one game when saving the second.

So a few weeks between starting new games is a kind of solution.

IndianSmoke: you missed the point.

icefire34 uses the /ALTROOT command line option to get Pitboss to use different directories. (Without that, you would not be able to have 2 different civ4.ini files to set 2 different ports for the 2 different Pitboss games...)

And icefire34's right. I experienced the same. Whenever Pitboss is started with /ALTROOT it first of all moves everything from the default location to the new /ALTROOT directory.
Which kind of sucks.

Workaround: Civ4 (or at least i tested Civ4BeyondSword.exe) itself accepts the /ALTROOT option.
So you can change every shortcut in your system pointing to Civ4 and add
Code:
/ALTROOT="d:\my data\My Civ4 Client Settings+Screenshots"
Of course Civ4 will always move everything from the default directory to the /ALTROOT location when started.

As a result you will have 3 different /ALTROOT locations 2 for your Pitboss Games and one for Playing. And a merely empty default location somewhere in "My Documents"/"My Games".
You can use this to your advantage. When playing multiple Pitboss Games prepare a Shortcut with a different /ALTROOT for each. As the last host you connected to is stored in the civ4.ini you don't need to type it everytime. And your screenshots are seperated :). Great for stories.

Hope that helps!

how do you think I am running multiple pitbosses?

Setting /ALTROOT on the shortcut I use to play the games did the trick; thanks for the tip!
