How can I win a Civ BNW Sci/Domintation vic at emperor level?

Thanks to all, and especially to Memoryjar for the welcome and links.
I have just won on Emperor level playing the Shoshone (I love their pathfinders & extra territory!) and although I was going for a science vic I actually won by being voted the World Leader, which I have to admit was a bit of an anti climax :/ I'm going to try another civ and a different vic, so I'm sure I'll have more questions later on, and I'll try and be more specific with them...

Also its a bit too simplistic to say you should end the game at crossbows on Pangea on Emperor - because if you play on Large or Huge maps its a bit more difficult!!
