How can you catch up in the score ?

Profette, are you aware that you can chop down forests to add hammers to your city's production? If you're getting beat by one or two turns to the early wonders, chop down a forest or two to significantly speed up the process. I'm not sure the rule of thumb, but I believe early forests add 30 hammers to your city, more hammers later in the game. That's worth quite a few turns for the early wonders.

IIRC, how many hammers a forest give depends on:

1) How far away it is from the closest city. The further the less.
2) Game speed, since everything's scaled according to game speed.
3) Modifiers.

Hovering over the Chop icon will tell you how much hammers it will provide and which city it will go to.

Suppose you are building the Stonehenge, and your stone is only getting connected in five turns. Suppose also that your chop will complete in three turns (Normal speed?) giving 30 hammers. Then you should wait until you connect the stone to complete the chop, because that stone will switch on the Stonehenge modifier---double production speed with stone. Once stone is connected, you'll find that your 30-hammer chop produces 60 hammers in the city.

again, very interesting advice,thanks...
Demetrious, I think your point was interesting, yet, you see, I already tried to change tracks but since we do not TELL each other what we're doing, I realized too late that HE had changed tracks as well, and that's also the reason why I didn't think of chopping down forests, mnf, because I didn't think he would get the wonder before me since there was just one turn left...
Good tip about hovering on the button, though, I hadn't thought about it...:mischief:

But I think my strategy is going to improve a lot because of all the tips about religions I found here ! HE doesn't know about temples and cathedrals, so that should get me into the lead again !!!

But I'll have to wait for a while before trying it since we're going on holiday for a week this week-end, without computers !
