Just wondering.

My dad told me that he knew someone who said that there was a good game named civ2. I got the game and played it a long time. When I heard that civ3 would come i didn't hesitate to buy it as soon as it hit the shelves :)

I rented civ2 for the first time, just came across it in the shop, and went to buy it the very next day. It took me very long time to buy civ3 though as a result of wandering around too much.(Just bought a compatible pc and IMMEDIATELY bought civ3 to go with it) :goodjob:

A friend told me how great Civ2 was, but I bought Civ3 a year ago because from what I could tell, it was the kind of game I was looking for.

well i downloaded a demo of Risk 2! for the PC when one of the games also being advertised was Civilization 3. I also found a game called Europa Universalis 2 that mentioned Civ3 so i downloaded it. when i fired it up i was like what the ****. i was lost but then i saw the civilopedia which i read and helped me in the game. i instantly loved the game and then bought it two weeks later.

My option isn't on the poll. A friend showed me Civ II. I liked it so much that I bought Civ III when it came out.

That counts as friend.

Hmmmm, relatives are number 1, what ever happened to the annoying in-laws?

I didn't find out about it, it found out about me :) .

Honestly I can't remember if I first saw it mentioned on the 'net or in a magazine or just assumed that after Civ 2 there'd be Civ 3.

I was hoping for age of Empires, but my mom got me civ instead. I was a little(ok, a lot) disappointed, but I played it, and it pulled me in.

Newsweek did a spotlight on it right about the time it was released, I believe. I didn't get it until a year later, but when I saw it on the shelf I remembered the article and didn't hesitate to pick it up. I'm normally not a big game shopper, and will usually only get something on recommendation of a friend with similar tastes.

Saw it on the shelf completely by chance  Hardly ever go shopping for things other than food/clothes, so I was lucky that I saw it :) I didn't realise there had been a sequel released at this point...

You guys marked in the other section, how did you find out about it?
(My uncle got it for his one or two years ago, he loved it, and whenever I visited him I asked if I could borrow it. He was to attatched to it, but I got it for my birthday sometime later.)

"Other"
I heard about Civ 2 from friends and got well into that. One day I happened to see Civ 3 and I couldn't not buy it.
