How did you first find out about civ?

Hmm... Don't remember exactly when, but it was CIV1, I believe it was for an Amiga 500? Or perhaps it was for my first pc, don't remember exactly. CIV1 I did not buy though, got it from a friend.

But then I bought CIV II THREE times! First I bought it, lost it and bought it again... But then I saw a version in a shop "Gold" or something, with lots of new stuff in it, so I bought that too.

Now I don't know where any of these games are... To bad, I would have liked to play CIV2 again, just for the memories...

I then bought CIV3, PTW and C3C.

I wish Sid would release a new version of Colonization aswell... That is two out of three games I have played the most, CM being the other.

In 1999 I visited an old friend. I let me in and immediately went back to his PC to finish his game. This was CIV2. Half an hour later I asked him to start a game and show me how it worked. That was about 7 PM. I vividly remember looking at my watch at 7.15 PM and 7.30 PM, but next time I looked it was 4.15 AM!!

I was hooked, but never played a lot of games of CIV2. SMAC was out and I turned my attention to that and later SMAX, the expansion pack.

When CIVIII came I was dissapointed at first, but after half a year I finally realised that this wasn't supposed to be a follow up of SMAC, but more of CIVII. I've been playing it fanatically, but luckily I'm not an addict. :p

Back in '91 - '92 ish, after the allure of Populous for the Sega Genesis was wearing off, my girlfriend (wife now), took me to look for a new game. And there is was: Civ 1 for the Mac.

Bought it, played it, and shortly after, we had Civ night with various friends every Friday from 8:00 on till whenever (Damn, to be 22 again, *sigh*).

Best memory?, my girlfriend and I falling asleep about 2:30 or so, and waking up at 7:00 am to find my buddies still playing straight on. (Their cheers woke us up as they just finished wiping out Napoleon!).

I purchased my first "real" computer at Carnegie Mellon University in 1993. Soon after, a friend provided me with a mountain of software, including the original Civilization. Sometimes I question his intentions. I think that he wanted to watch another student struggle to complete his degree while suffering from a Civilization addiction. I have been hooked ever since. Amazingly I have managed to hold a job, get married, and have kids. They all seem to get in my way of playing the game though.

Back in the 90s a friend gave me his disks for Civ1 to try. I liked the game so got my own game and the rest is history!!

I think it was 1993. I bought my first PC (super fast 386 with 4 megs of RAM, 210mb hard drive for $2200!). Reason I got it was for 3 games: Civ I, Wing Commander II, and Sim City. I still have my Civ I DOS floppies around, I should install and see if it still runs! :D

I still have my Civ I DOS floppies around, I should install and see if it still runs!

Right after getting this machine XP I tried that and wasn't suprised when it wouldn't run. In my case I think both the video and audio seemed to have fatal problems.

Back in the military, our local rec room had a computer area and almost every single computer had Civ I on it. This was in 1993. So I started playing with the help of a friend of mine who'd been playing for a few months prior.

First time I played, I was broke and resided in a wasteland. I had two cities, a ton of military, and couldn't understand why the civ next to me kept kicking my arse every time I attacked and I couldn't keep up with what the people want. He looks at me and said, "Irrigate something, man, and quit rushing military units!"

Civ II, and it was around 1996, not addicted yet. However, in 2001 my brother bought me Civ III, and I keep it on my drawer for around 18 months. 2003, my brother challenged me to play Civ III PTW during crhristmas season. Rushing the CIVIII 1.07f game in my office laptop (shame to me if I lost with my younger brother), registered to civIII forum, and learning as fast as possible, and I still lost  But, I enjoy the game very much, and IMO, its the best game I ever play.

Around the end of 94 or begginings of 95, when I was 8 years old, I used to buy games in a store, where a guy I knew there advised me on some good games... Now, some day he showed me some game called Colonization, which I got addicted to in no time...

So, after maybe a year or so, I found out there was another game created by the same guy, with the same style as well, called Civilization...

So, I asked the guy for that game, but he told me I'd better wait, because a new version of that game was about to be released...

So, a few weeks after Civ II came out, I bought it!

And then, I found out about Civ 3 some day probably in 2001 (or maybe even 2002), when I saw some new pictures from that game (a 3d warrior, tank, catapult, and riflemen which never got released :(, but all of them blew my mind)...

I didnt hear again from that game until a few months after its release (january 2002, if I'm not wrong), and I inmediately bought it... And again, I just found out there were two expansions for this game about 3 months ago, so I got the as soon as I could again! :D

A friend of mine showed me civ 1 when I was like 10 and said I would be good at it because I was "smart".

My dad's very favorite game until the day he died was Civilization. I wasn't really that into it back at Civ I. I would watch him play sometimes and see these stupid-looking boats and people that he kept moving around. "I'm exploring, son." It wasn't until much later that I actually TRIED the darn game, and now I can't stop playing!

My family got our first computer when I was about 6, and I was allowed to choose one (!) game to buy. I got SimTower, and loved it, so a couple years later, after I had a few more games, I decided to try SimCity. There was a bonus CD with it, a game I had never heard of. When I couldn't get SimCity to work on my computer, I tried this Civilization game. I was soon addicted and rarely played anything else, even after I got SimCity to work.
In seventh grade, I was in Colombus for the regional spelling bee, and as a reward for making it to the oral competition, I was given my choice of a computer game. (By this time it was my main hobby) I was then hooked on CTP, not realizing when I bought it that it wasn't true Civilization material.
After I discovered the internet, I found a preview of Civ 3 on IGN and waited months for its release. I bought the limited edition for a whopping $60 while I was on vacation in Texas, and had read the entire manual by the time we got home.
I had to wait even longer tp play, though, because I discovered that the CD drive on our new computer wasn't working! I memorized the manual for another 2 weeks and finally played the greatest game in history.
I pre-ordered C3C, and just last week bought Civ 2 as part of a strategy game pack to complete my collection.

Magazines, etc Im pretty sure i looked into civ on my own. I really enjoy strategy games so i checked out some reviews looked grand and that was the start of that.

When I was 10, our family was invited to another family's house for dinner. Their son (much older than me) had a Mac. I played Civilization (the original) on it with him. I loved it! So I went to the mall to get it. I then saw Civilization II on display, so I bought that. :goodjob: Now I have Civilization III and PTW! :goodjob:
