Dear forum,

I don't understand how i get a scientific milestone in the exploration age. It says you have to have one yield of 40 with specialist.

But wich buildings do give specialistst and aren't you only allowed to have 2 buildings on a quarter? I am confused.

I usally play civ 5 and i manually assign my specialist i guess thats not the case anymore.

any tips are welcome

Whenever your city grows, instead of creating improvement, you may create Specialist by clicking on the star-in-circle-above-square (looks like voting box icon) above district with building. There is however Specialists Per Building Limit.

Buildings don’t give specialists

Specialists are population units you assign to Urban Building tiles (as opposed to the Rural Improvement tiles where one population makes the improvement and then no more)

The max number of Specialists in a tile is the Specialist Limit, it’s the same for all Urban tiles in the city

The Specialists increase yields on a tile through
1. Their own base yields: 2 sci 2 culture but that can be modified
2. Adjacency bonuses: each specialist produces additional yield equal to 1/2 of the total adjacency bonus of the buildings under them

You need two buildings in that tile that generate good base yields.
Tech masteries increase these yields significantly. As can social policies.
You get adjacency yields for most buildings, especially if you have an adjacent wonder.
The specialists themselves give some yields as well, but they double the tiles adjacency.

Generally, this is much easier towards the end of the era, when you've researched some masteries, can apply multiple policies, and have wonders or urban districts around the district with the specialist(s).

You want the following techs: Education and Urban Planning. Both increase your specialist limit by one each. Then, you can stack 3 specialist into one tile. Then, your city needs to grow so that you may fill those slots. Keep in mind you can't reassign population normally. If that's not quite getting over the line, lookout for anything that increases yields on those tiles like policies or legacies.

3 specialists wasn enough for me, but there was one more increase somewhere and with 4 specialists I would have made it.

The UI is just bad.. You need adjadjency bonusses because specialists double these but no where is it explained in the game !! and its verry difficult to see wich buildings are allready built in a quarter or wich bonusses they have
