How do I conquer single-tile city?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but every way I've tried to conquer a single-tile island-based city has failed. Paratroopers always fail, and when I try Marines I'm told that only ground-based units can attack settlements. What am I missing?

:hmm:
Marines should be able to attack...
Maybe you accidently 'attacked' with the transport ship? - would explain the message at least.

Move your transport right next to such a city, right-click it, activate a marine, attack with marine.:)

edit: one thing: pure marine armies can't attack from a boat in vanilla; but it works in PTW

That's what I've done with Marines, just as you describe. Could there be some reason why it won't allow Marines to disembark and attack?

You did not play around with the editor (or play a mod/scenario) and accidently removed the naval assault ability of marines?

Also, I assume you're patched to 1.29 (civ3) resp 1.27 (PTW)?

Ah, that may be it. I haven't been messing with the editor, but I am playing a scenario off this site. Is it possible to change parameters in the middle of a game?

No, you have ruined your game, I reccomend you destroy your computer, as well as all of your personal belongings immediately.

Refer to the rule changes of that scenario (if there's a readme included or description in the d/l section). Maybe another unit has the naval assault ability, at least I would think so.

You could open the *.bic *.bix or *.biq file with the respective editor and check out on your own. If you change something here (and save it), it would only affect your next game.

Is the city in question the capitol of the nation it belongs to? If you kick their teeth in enough, they may give it to you as part of a peace exchange...

That stinks. What version and patch are you under?

Mac, eh? I honestly have no idea then if nuclear terraforming a land bridge would work then. Even so, IMHO, it wouldn't be worth it. A naval blockade and alternate win condition would be much easier...

How come?

Foot-in-mouth post...
wrong thread (edited post) or did you make that problematic scenario?

Jersey General:
This thread has a civ editor by Grampos that can alter saved games. I don't know if it works for Mac version or not. why don't you check it out and/or PM Grampos.

CIVILIZATION III > Civ3 - Creation & Customization > Utility Programs > C3MT - Civ3MultiTool (Second CFC Thread)

Nuke or cruise missles and then send in the marines.
