How do I display/plunder Trade Routes?

OK, this may be a silly question, but I couldn't figure it out on my own.

1) Is there an easy way to display Trade Routes other than my own?

2) I didn't seem able to plunder any Trade Routes, even though my units were standing - I am pretty sure - on the routes. How do I do that? Do I have to declare war first, or is the DOW automatic when I plunder?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

1. Click on the trade icon at the top or if you wanna see the routes other caravans or cargos are taking, hover your mouse over their icon
2. Declare war, then plunder

None that I know of. You have to click on the enemy caravans/cargo boats one by one to see the route they are following.

It is not enough to stay on the route: yout unit should be ON the caravan/cargo boat to be plundered. Of course you have to be at war; in any case plundering is an act of war.

If you're already at war, you can leave a unit on the route and wait for the caravan or cargo ship to try and walk through them - it will then be auto-plundered.

Newbie question

If you can see the trade route? What if any benefits are there with having a Trade Post on the trade route ?

Just noticed for the first time; I was about to build a trade post and while hovering it came up that this was on a trade route.!

Cool or what ?

Thanks

If you click on the small icon next to the mini-map, several display options appear, including display trade routes (along with display resource icons, tile yields, etc.).

One thing I will add:
To plunder TR coming to you, on the turn you DOW, first move units onto the caravans and cargo ships.

Otherwise, the TR is merely canceled and you don’t get the money. Your DOW victim might still be losing the caravan/cargo ship (I am not sure how to test that), but you won’t get to pillage it. TR between your DOW target and others are easier to pick up.

Huh. I've had trade routes plundered that were connected to a civ that just declared war on me, and I always wondered how they managed to do it. Now I know.

Thanks!

Nope, the ongoing trade route between civ that start a war will be disappeared. As far as I know, neither player won't get anything back, including cargo ship/caravan

The plunder-able trade route is a trade route between your enemy and a civ that's not at war with your enemy. I don't sure if you can plunder someone's trade route to start a war with them, BTW.
