How do I get default settings back?

just stumbled upon this game and bought Ultimate Edition at a local game shop. i've been screwing around with different options and settings and and since i'm just trying to figure stuff out, once i exit the game I DO NOT want the settings around the next time i select NEW game. come on, i'm not loading a save game or "resuming", i want a new game, as in all new settings (duh).

so, anyone know a way to start a fresh game with all default settings rather than have settings i made last game still in place? is there a 'clear all' button/command or does the game use something like a cookie that i could clear?

a few folks looked but i guess no one knew but i found out elsewhere so for those of you who didn't know (or i pissed them off in some past forum and they refused to help. ) , you just remove Prefs.ini buried down in my documents\my games.

I wouldn't have remembered as it's been months and months since I played GalCiv II, glad you found the answer in the meantime!
For such more "technical" questions, GalCiv II's own forum is typically a better place to ask as most of the experts lurk there rather than here.

thanks and in fact, that's where i got the answer. went to that forum first then stumbled on this forum. i dunno, 62 views is a lot of views for an inactive forum so it seems the lurkers are here too. GOG had a sale on MOO2 so i bought it for my netbook and don't mean to be sacrilege, but i didn't like it that much. checking out MOO2 stuff on the web made me stumble across this game and i like it but you're right, i'm behind the times and most likely everyone has played this already and moved on...oh well

Of course, plenty of lurkers here - what I just meant to say is that most of the more expert players are on the other forum.
Even more sacrilege, I never tried MOO2; it may be a great game but I often find the user-friendliness to be lacking a bit in the older games: less clear overviews, more clicking required, etc.
I did try MOO3 in spite of the bad reviews and unfortunately they were right

Usually I'm also behind times as I'm often travelling for work so playing on a laptop with all the resulting limitations. It's true that a part of the players have moved on, but there's still a community of GalCiv II fans out there. And it's a game worth playing!

it is and i was surprised i got all three games for only $20! i like micromanagement if i understand what i'm doing so i'm still wading thru the game/manual/walkthrus trying to tie it all together. i guess civ 5 is soon to be released. i'm not a "fanatic" but i did play one of them (can't remember if it was 3 or 4) but probably won't get 5 unless they release a demo and it's not just "more of the same" (which it probably is). and, if i recall, they don't release demos for the civ series...do they?

That's good value for your money! Especially twilight of the arnor has tremendous replayability with its unique tech trees...
Don't hesitate to post any questions by the way (at least if I still remember the answer ) though I've always found the interface to be pretty straight-forward to at least start playing the game. The manual comes in handy to figure out the more advanced stuff though and using tools like the planetary governor and waypoints becomes essential when you're playing in larger size galaxies.

I was never that much into Civilization (I've played III in the past, now giving IV a try) even though I prefer the setting over GalCiv II's space.
I've read 2 weeks ago that it was confirmed there would be a demo of Civilization V released some time in September...

oh, ok..thanks for that, i'll probably give the demo a try but doubt i'll buy the game. it's kinda like age of empires of old, all subsequent "games" were just technically updated versions of the original. same for GalCivII right? but i've never played these so i'll pick the one i like but probably wouldn't buy GalCivIII. Men of War: Assault Squad comes out sometime before the end of the year so i'll probably switch to that. nice talking to you but as you said, if i get stuck on this game i'll probably ask at the game site forum.

In a way, that's true. And in turn, Age of Empires borrows heavily from Warcraft which borrows from Dune II...
The main difference that GalCiv II brings is unlimited resources (your population keeps paying taxes), larger armies and maps, stronger AI that doesn't cheat until the very highest levels.

Indeed, that's the way to go with questions. It's amazing how far some of those players go, finishing the largest maps within less than a game year, swindling the AI out of hundreds of planets, ...
