The title about says it all. A look through the tutorial thread and a search of the C&C forums for "leaderhead" just didn't do the job so.... Assume I'm a moron with a copy of an image editor and Animation Shop 3 and a picture I want to become a leaderhead. No fancy animations necessary, just something that'll work in PTW. What must I do? Thanks for any guidance.

Bump!

I too would like to know the difference and technique involved in making still leaderheads.
I'm currently working on making the graphics for 16 era specific still leaderheads in poser for a scenario that I want to make, and i was going to post a thread just like this when i was finished.
I don't really have the time to mess around with programs, and prefer to look at a step by step guide from people who know better than me.
I know that you have to make a 121 frame animation flic in animation shop, but do you have to do the reverse flic etc to fill the gaps. (?) Its just the wee questions that f**k me up. I don't have time to test and play.

I created a thread on how to do animated leaderheads in poser and got a very helpful response from Kinboat. I copied and pasted the thread into the tutorial section so that others could learn from it and people in the know would not have to repeat them selves over and over.

There is currently no tutorial for anybody who is interested in doing this.
If somebody could look at this thread and then go post a step by step tutorial on how to do it, then I'm sure it would
benefit everyone.
If someone completes one, and others think they can add to it, all the better.

No point in keeping people in the dark, the more people working on graphics the better.

Is that it?
No other details.
What about the reverse frames that you have to do with an animated leaderhead, do you just make a path to the same one, or does it not matter?

Just to make it clear for pdescobar and myself.

You bring your image into Animation shop, make it 200x240 pixels.
Click animation/insert frames/empty, make it 120 since your image makes up the 121st frame.
Then click on the image, and copy n paste it onto the other frames.

PS. I tried copying the image, selecting all frames, then pasting. nothing happened. Do you have to do each one individually. I'm just messing around as i post here, I'm sure i could figure it out. I'm just thinking of the basics that might screw people up that are not familiar with the program.

Quoting sween32,

Thanks sween. Some questions, though.

1) What happens if the number of frames is not 121? I tried one with a single frame that worked ok in a limited test -- is an unexpected crash in my future if I don't change it? :)

2) Does that delay timing thing matter? Looks like the default is 10 and one of the ones I downloaded to play with (one of yours I think :) ) was set at that, but another one I downloaded had a timing of 7...

3) Are there any worries about reserving the last couple colors in the palette for unused transparency or is that not an issue in heads?

Quoting gael,
bring your image into Animation shop, make it 200x240 pixels.
Click animation/insert frames/empty, make it 120 since your image makes up the 121st frame.

Thanks gael, I just tried this. When you insert the empty frames, if you tell it to insert it after yours (before frame 2) and check the box called "carry forward contents of preceding frame" it copies them automatically.

As for the backward/forward thing, since this "animation" doesn't move, just pointing them both to the same file should be fine, I would think.

not sure what happens if it's not 121. i would just keep it 121 just incase. the way i make it 121 is right click on the first frame and select duplicate frame. this will make 2 frames of the same thing and have them both highlighted. then you do it again to make four, again to make eight, again to make sixteen... until you go over 121 and you just delete the extra frames so it's 121. i would also make the frame rate 1, and replace pure white with a very simular grey (pure white is transparent).

There would be 7 extra frames, since the doubling would be 32, 64, 128 after 16.

AFAIK, a single-frame "animated" head is fine - I've been using one for a while now and not had any trouble.

As for the "reverse" entry, you can just use the same one as for the "forward"

Yeah Poser is a 3d editing software, its expensive, but you can maybe find older versions for very cheap.
There are also many websites to find free props, clothing, textures, etc.
Installed the Poser 7.
I try to learn.:)
