How do I make Steam stop sychronizing?

How do I make Steam stop sychronizing? It's been sychronizing for hours and it's preventing the update (1.0.0.17) from applying.

I had the same problem. I went down to the tray where the steam symbol was, right clicked and exited steam. It may pop a message saying it's syncing and it will close when finished but they give you an option to force the exit. Choose that one. Then restart steam and it "should" update normally.

At least mine did.

Mine was trying to sync for over 10 hours that I was sleeping; woke up and it was still trying. I exited, got the same message, now I can't even start the game. Tried rebooting, NO DICE.

I'm about ready to go completely ballistic. I shouldn't bother. My impression of this game has been less than favorable anyway. I should just uninstall and try to recoup some losses by selling on eBay.

Except that you can't re-sell it, because the product is useless without a registration code, that is now permanently linked to your Steam account.
