I am the stage of the game only having Galleons and Privateers but am trying to eliminate a couple of civs, yet one of them has a sole remaining island of 1 square with a town on it. I cant land there or attack it from the sea.
How do I get rid of the pest?!

marines are the way...the only way. In conquests, berserks can attack from the sea too, but I assume you are playing vanilla.

Since it is their last city it would be their capital...

usually i try to make peace to get all those little towns like that before i wipe people out... but yeah, marines or berserkers.

And PTW, too.

In the last GOTM, there were 2 one-tile mountain islands next to our continent and both had barb-camps on it. That was annoying too.

I ended up with quite a few elite ships... :hmm:

Don't the Scandinavians have a amphibious unit too? Since it's the capital it doesn't work to initiate propaganda but if it wasn't you could always try that. Most effective (and cheaper) with cities of size 1 and 2.

And they were still there when I had battleships and AEGIS cruising the seas :crazyeye:

GOTM40 is the example of what one-square islands can do. I want to see if ANYBODY got a conquer loss.

If the Vikings are in the game, bribe them to go to war against that civ, and keep bribing them every time they sign peace. They'll do the job eventually.

If the Vikings are not in the game, you have to wait for the marines.

... or just leave it be. It is too weak to pose any semblance of a threat to you anyway.

thats about the one use i ever had for propaganda: taking islands like that one. of course you cant do it now that it has turned into their new capital. you also cant do it without the discovery of espionage.

Just for arguments sake, could you red-line all the defenders with battleships, then kill them with bombers and air-drop (either paratrooper or via helicopter transport) a unit into the city?

I've never used either paratroopers or helicopters, so this would be something new to me. I remember Civ2 allowed paratroopers to capture cities, but I never tried it in Civ3x
