How do you edit maps?
Im a total noob in civ4.

You can edit maps with the world-builder. There even are some tools that make a random map, before you start the game.

You can also edit maps by opening a map in notebook. This allows you to change the leaders/civilizations and what not. But its not as easy as it was in past versions of civ

Is there any way to eliminate squares altogether on the Europe scenario map? russia is too big IMO as it the Middle3 East and it slows the late game down big time

Basically you have to change the world size, delete the unneeded plots (not mandatory, but reduces bug risk) and make sure no civ starts in the deleted area.
