How do you get a mod downloaded from the internet to work?

So I downloaded a mod from civfanatics and extacted the files to the mod folder in
Civ V. However, I cannot select the mod when looking in mods in the game.

How do I fix this problem?

i'm not sure but go to mods in game and click install mods.

I cannot select the mod when looking in mods in the game.

You won't need to use the INSTALL MODS button if you've already extracted it--All that button does is unzip any .civ5mod files you've downloaded.

If it doesn't show up in any of the pages of the "Installed" mods list, then check to see if there's a .modinfo file in the mod's folder. If there is not, then it might only be a resource for modders, and not an actual mod.
