[Civ2] How do you guys play Civ2 these days?

Hello guys,

I'm trying to play again this game for the sake of nostalgia but I'm having trouble geting it to work with Windows 10.

I've managed to download and install the game, it even runs but is laggy as heck.

What are you guys doing to play it smoothly like it should?

By laggy do you mean that it just "thinks" during the AI turn? If so, my "fix" was.to get an old xp laptop for $75 or so on ebay.... Not the beat solution for you, I know. But that's not much more than the cost of a game these days.

Which version of Civilization are you running. Civilization 2, Civ2 Fantastic Worlds, Civ2 Multiplayer Gold Edition, Test of Time?

When you say 'laggy' can you explain what's happening. Is it when you move a unit there is a delay before they respond, is it the AI turns moving slowly or something else?

I may have a couple of possible solutions, depending on the problem & the version you're running.

Hello,

I'm using the .iso version of Civ2 Multiplayer Golden Edition. The game just takes forever to do anything. Even the move animations are taking forever, loading, opening the game, etc...

I only managed to fix this by using the ripped version, but I don't like it because there's a lot of information that gets lost when I do it and it makes for a worse experience in my opinion.

Also, I'm thinking about playing a different version since I've always only played the Golden Edition so far, so I'm thinking about some other one.
