How do you make armies using the military acadaemy?

I just completed my military acadaemy but can't seem to figure out how to use it to make new armies. I moved three modern armors into the city with the acadamey but they don't have a join command and I can't seem to find a create an army option anywhere. Anyway I'm sure it involoves some rather obvious process that I'm just missing but any help would be appreciated.

First, you have to build an army just like other units (it should display in city build list), then load armors into it.

Note that you can only build an army in the city where you build the military academy. You should therefore consider carefully which city you will build the academy in -> go for a high production city, as an army requires a lot of shields to build.

How do you build the military academy itself? I had a victorious army in the ancient era and built the heroic epic, but by the middle ages i still wasn't given the option to build it?

You need the optional advance "Military Tradition," which occurs during the Middle Ages.

Found this one out last night. Built the military academy. Time to build army? 27 turns. Doh!
