How do you play Civ?

I still only play the Vanilla version, I even bought the complete collection on ebay recently, but still haven't installed it.

I always play Huge maps, with 11 Civs and random personalities. I tried epic speed, but I still think I prefer Normal. I like Terra maps, but they are pretty predictable, so I usually play Continents or PerfectWorld2 (which I have modified so that the Huge maps are the same size as the default Huge maps, I found the PerfectWorld2 default maps had too much space in them and so rarely cause any conflicts. I also play on Noble, which I can usually win on or finish near the top at least, but still can have a hard time of it... even got wiped out recently.

And perhaps unusually, I don't normally play it as a game to win, but rather more as a sandbox experience like Sim City. I just enjoy building up a nice and fruitful civilisation. I've occasionally crippled my economy to win a space race, or declared war on an old friend just to get that extra 1% of land area to win a domination game. But generally things like that tend to shatter the illusion a little for me, and I'd rather finish 2nd or 3rd realistically than do something that no country would ever really do just in order to win the game.

Oh and I'd quite like to know more about the wife/girlfriend situation too, and how you manage to keep them both entertained while just playing games in the background :)

I play with oversized maps made with Planet_Generator_068 and using the BAT/BUG/BULL mod. Usually 160x100 and have anywhere from 10-16 total civs.

I always play Epic Speed with No tech brokering.

I very often play with no barbs and no spying.

I'm an extreme isolationist/builder type and all of my wins have been of the Diplomatic, Space race or score variety. Never really tried for a cultural win.

I occassionally like to play the Quot Capita and Rise of Mankind mods but generally prefer the regular game. Thinking about getting the Stone Age mod.

freeky. I just bought the Complete Collection on ebay myself :scan:
But I made the switch to BTS a long while ago so my challenge is going back to regular/warlords just for a fun change (and to hopefully play some scenarios/mods).
I also have been playing PerfectWorld2, go figure. :crazyeye:
You have a point about the civs being kind of separated, one possiblity would be to put an extra civ or two on each map size, I'm tempted to try it (I usually just stick to the standard 7 civs). Of course the trouble is that that map often generates quite a bit of inhospitable terrain which could make for some awful starting spots.

Sometimes, I play in the nude.

I did that. Once...

My computer was in my bedroom, and I had just got up from sleeping all day (night shift. :() I played for about half an hour without getting dressed, and I won! My first Noble win! I ran out to the living room to tell my then room mate, but I was so excited that I forgot my robe...

We had company.

BTS with bug mod

Standard size continents
Standard random AIs
I'll choose my Civ to try out new techniques I've been reading about
Prince (yay finally)

Sometimes drink, sometimes weed.

I often play with my buddies over. One has been playing a lot longer than me, and one is a total noob, so it makes for a lot of laughs.

Large/Huge, Perfect World

I often try to build up enough culture to win a Culture Victory, though at the moment my personal record is abour 7000 :culture:. I often build massive armies, though it's really only for defence.

Maybe you were just trying to keep Pacal from feeling uncomfortable?

Oooh! Couldn't you just see my Pacal inspired leaderhead? I have a really crummy tan (pasty white Irish girl, here), but give me a weird hairdo, some pearls, and no blouse, and then make a leaderhead of me...

You guys would never be able to concentrate. :p

Sorry, I had my "Print Screen" button surgically removed. It's amazing what they can do with plastic surgery these days. There isn't even a scar... :p

Dork.

Does anyone remember what this thread used to be about? I vaguely remember something about how we play CIV...

i only play on standard size and up on marathon with 18 civ's with the perfect world map script.. i either win by domination or die trying and my games usually take like 15-20+ hours cause i diddle daddle

I play on small map, maybe 6 civs. I try combinations from what threads I read that interest me.

By the late game usually I have been betrayed at least once. I make sure I have fission and rocketry first.

Then I load up the ships, park them 2 squares away from my target, nuke it 2 or 3 times, wait a turn. Next turn I lob cruise missiles into the few reinforcements, bombers maybe, then send in seals and MI. Then all done. time for beer
