I am running Civ III Complete and can play the locked alliance demo under conquests, but cant seem to play it any other way. Is there a way to do this or am I doing something wrong?

I am in a MacBook Pro intel OS 10.5.6. My game version is 1.22 (I got it to 1.22 by copying the entire game file from my old mac from 2006)

Thanks for any help!

Hello, welcome. :wavey:

Some questions ...

1. I don't have a Locked Alliance demo in my installation. Where is it?

2. What other way do you want to play it?

3. I hope you copied the entire Civ3 Complete game *folder* from your old Mac, not just a single file?

4. Have you updated it? You need to patch it to Rev A, which is fully Intel native, and then replaced the application *file* with the one you can download here.

Under Civ III you see "Conquests"

In that you find this senerio, which is the only way I can play an alliance that I can find.

I would think it would be a selection you could make when starting a new game...

OK, thanks. I suspected it was a mod, but I was looking for a reference to "Locked Alliance" in the name of the mod.

That's a modded scenario. The clue is in the "Base Rules Modified" warning. You can only start games defined by the designer who created that scenario file, as locked alliances are not an option you can choose when starting a random game.

To create another Locked Alliance scenario you would have to use the Windows Civ3 Conquests editor and define your own Locked Alliances in the Scenario Properties.

Well bugger.

I tried to run the patch to rev a but got the standard hang problem. I think I will just restore it to what I had a few minutes ago with time machine and keep it the way it is.

Thanks!

If you patch to rev A you will almost certainly also need to download the updated app to avoid the dreaded Quicktime bug

Since you are running an Intel Mac, it might be worth your while to get Windows XP on it, and get a copy of Civ3Complete for Windows just to use the editor. I got a Windows box specifically for that, as otherwise, I am completely Mac.
