Hi there. Anyone know how to sell a building in a city ?

Can you destroy wonders too ?

Thanks

Scotty

You don't. The only ones where I could see that this would ever be desired is the bad power plants if you get a better one in. As there is no maintenance for buildings the only reason I could see to do this is to spite the conqueror.

That's a standard ploy for games like these though ... you see a city falling in the near-future and you export as much wealth as you can, leaving as much salted earth as possible.

I've seen numerous reasons why someone would want to sell a building. Just yesterday I had a city being defended with three units. I wanted to upgrade them because there were several enemy units advancing on the city. I didn't have the cash and ended up loosing the city. I had several barracks in cities that I didn't really need barracks in and I wanted to sell them to get the extra cash to upgrade my units.

The way things work now you might as well have a barracks in every city, but I would have gladly given up a few barracks I would have been forced to rebuild in order to prevent loosing a city to a powerful neighbor.

i can see why you'd want to sell the building, but it doesn't make sense in the game---who would you be selling the building too? what would you be selling?

i can see being able to destroy a building and using a small portion of the scraps for your current production....

Sell them to whom? Who exactly wants to buy your building such that your city no longer benefits from it? Perhaps destroy for minimal production gain but being able to sell buldings for gold makes little sense. Maybe that enemy army knocking on your door would like to buy it? :P

couldn't you just sell it to the public? many buisnesses would be willing to buy your reduced (at least 50% off) barracks and airports :) maybe you can train troops there or build a supermarket!

What about wanting to destroy the whole city, for example in enemy territory - after you pressed "Install a new governer". What happens if after the war, you don't want the city anymore, for whatever reason. I know you could do it in Civ3, but what about Civ4?

I can see the point in being able to raze a city after you have got it but theres no reason to get rid of buildings and I dont think selling them is realistic.

Some reasons why I might want to sell/destory a building:

a) A religious building is spreading an undesired religion amongst my provinces

b) A city has been claimed momentarily but is sure to fall again once the enemy's reinforcements arrive.

c) A small injection of cash is required

d) I wish to replace one of my two national wonders in a city

Hope this answers your questions over why anyone would want to destoy/sell a building

Those are all good reasons why you would want to sell a building, but still I think the game makes sense this way: who are you selling the temple to?

Razing buildings is a different issue---like you want to ruin a city before it gets taken over...but that would be a pretty unrealistic event as well---a gov't can't really go around blowing up temples or National Wonders (!) whilly nilly.

I think this idea could be implemented if:

a) razing a building gave you a tiny proportion of the buildings rush price (to represent selling the copper wire in the walls for scrap or something)---maybe 10% of the value

b) destroying a building pretty much made a city revolt---if you knocked down a temple, people of that religion must revolt

b) you can't knock down National Wonders---that's just unpatriotic

a) only religeos buildings that spread religeons are hte ones made by great prophets. which means you have a holy city, so its spreading religeon is giving you cash, why would you NOT want this?

b) should have planned your war better.

c) if this is a reason for being allowed to sell buildings then selling units, research, land and culture should be allowed also, but that would make the game suck, cause you'd never have money problems.

d) poor planning. live with your mistakes, that's the reason for the 2 nationals/city limit in the first place.
