How do you skip the "In the beginning" intro?

Hi,

I had the black terrain problem, which was thankfully corrected by the latest patch, but I can't seem to find a way to skip the third movie (In the beginning, the earth was void blah blah blah.)

The first two, I can skip by clicking my touchpad (Dell Inspiron 5100, no mouse :(, just touchpad w/ left & right buttons ). But that one, it starts, the green progress bar goes up and up, until it says "Finishing", but won't let me go until the whole story has been said. It was OK the first few times, but let me get to the game :p)

So, is there anyway to stop the movie (I've tried clicking, escape, enter, space bar, just about every key on the keyboard, but nada.)? Or, at least, a way to replace the file with something shorter (I can't find the file, any help?)

Thanks,
Rahid

SPECS :

Dell Inspiron 5100 (laptop)
Windows XP SP2
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 32MB
256 MB RAM
Direct X 9.0C
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66 GHz

The Creation of the Universe....

And my son's Laptop is doing that too. It is a Toshiba Satellite 2435-S255 2.4Ghz with a GeForce 4 to Go 420 32Mg vid card. We upgraded his ram to 1Gb(max). updated the BIOs, chipset,sound, video drivers(many different ones) Still it stops at that "Finishing" part. *Sigh*

What's this "In the beginning" video?

Are you saying that you do not see the video/audio that plays as the game you've selected is setting up? The one where "Spock" (Leonard Nimoy) speaks from the biblical verses on creation? That's what was being referred to. What is it that you see and hear while the game is setting up the map, etc?

Find your CivilizationIV.ini file and change:

NoMovies=0 to NoMovies=1

That's a solution only if you want to delete all movies. What if one wants the in-game wonder movies and simply wants to bypass the intro movies before the starting selection screen?

OH! You mean a completely new game? Yes, I see that too. But most of the time I'm just loading saved games so it's ok.

I love those in the beginning movies. You can skip them if you don't want to see them.

AFAIK, The program is using the video to entertain you while the memory is loading the game elements. Depending upon your hardware, you may be able to skip part of this intro sequence by hitting backspace or enter (my machine will permit this at some point) but it is dependent upon the size of the map, etc. If the program insists upon playing itself out fully on your machine, I suspect that it is doing so because your given hardware resources require all that time to set up the game for you. A machine with more resources will need less preparation time.

the "play now" button will appear below the slide show as soon as your computer is done setting up the game, as mentionned above.. so if it's not appearing until the end it just means your computer is using the entire time to set up. Personally, on my computer it usually finished BEFORE Leonard even starts talking on Large or smaller maps. On Huge maps he gets the first couple panels out.

Go into the Civ4 "Assets\Art\Movies\Intros" directory. Rename the existing bik files to something else. Create empty text files and give them the names of the original bik files (2KG_NTSC.bik and intro.bik).

You'll still have to click through a "movies not installed properly" prompt though.

I was looking through the civilization.in file and found this:

; Enable Quick Slide Show Transitions
PopSlides = 0

I Wonder if it could have something to do with this, has anyone tried setting this to 1.
