How does getting religion effect our plans

So we now have religion in our capitol. How does this effect both our long term and short term plans?

Short term questions
Do we convert immediately or wait?
Does this effect worker or build orders?
Does this change our plans for war with Spain?
Do we want to help or try to delay its spread to Lincoln?

Long term questions
Effect on long term tech path?
other questions?

Short term: Under Paganism, Religion gives only 1 :) in each city with the religion.
This would allow Arete to immediately grow to one more pop without angry citizens. There would still be one sickness more than health.

Don't have the time right now to think about the other stuff, i'll post my opinion on those later.

Adopting Hinduism has no negatives except for the 1 turn Anarchy. I now think it's a necessary action to reduce or counter the negative hit from DOW on Lincoln's friend, Hatty, assuming Hinduism spreads to Babylon.

Currently there is not a lot of advantage in getting one more tile worked in Arete, the tiles are not improved so the +1 :) is not that important in my opinion. In my opinion we desperately need workers, we have a lot of unimproved resources and roading that needs to be done. This combined with Kwarriors thoughs lean me towards saying lets hit Spain quick, take some workers, maybe raze the dye city. The scout should pass through oin the next couple of turns, lets get the horse archers out and let them do what they are good at.

I think we should hold off on adopting Hinduism the benefit (+1 Happy in Arete) does not help us as it will still have unhealthiness. War with Spain is still uncertain until our Horse Archer reaches the Copper and ensure they do not have spears. Time is now of the essence as they will surely be settling a 3rd city soon if they have not yet. Assuming they do not have spears yet we should attack as soon as we reach optimal force ratio.

Linc is already pleased with Hatty btw..
This is an ingame fact.

@NZL Linc is already pleased, you are right, Blastoid brought this to my attention, so that line of the argument is moot. I actually think, now especially after discussions amongs APR members, that adopting Hinduism, and then encouraging its spread to Lincoln, may be needed to counter the diplomacy negatives from DOW on Hatty.

Therefore, I am changing my initial position, and putting all of my chips on the side that wishes to adopt Hinduism, help it spread to Lincoln, but get on with the rest of session 5, then DOW on Hatty when the opportunity presents itself.

In otherwords, our plans remain as they were with one exception that we adopt Hinduism.

I think having lincoln pleased with Hatty means we need to declare war just once. We do not need a pile up of modifiers. We may need to have a long war, but with our small city size war wearyness should not be a problem at this point.

hearing the converstions here, converting now seems OK, Spread is so unpredictable you can not really bank on anything.

I think AlKnight should play the next turn session(if the Triad is elected again.) As leader of the Faith Faction, he would know what to do.

One thing to think about is the happiness penalty from warring with "Brothers in faith." Is that going to affect us? 1 extra citizen is always an advantage, and normally I'd be all for adopting immediately, but in these circumstances I think we have to carefully consider.

RP-wise, we can surely spin it so that the religious elders of our nation are reluctant to adopt the Spanish religion, especially since so far RP-wise our relations haven't been too friendly with them.

I think we should switch to Hinduism right before DOWing on Spain (unless we aquire a tech opening up any religious civic before then)

If you are at war with the civ that contains the Holy City of your state religion, there is a chance every turn of getting the Holy City Quest, which amounts to one of the better ones out there.

I would have been slightly against changing to Hinduism prior to seeing this, but am now slightly in favor.

What exactly are the benefits of winning the Holy City Quest?
Anyway i think we should start the war on Spain before Linc gets Hinduism.
Therefor it might be wise not to convert this turn, but the turn right before we declare on Spain, as joncnunn said, for the Holy City Quest then...
Anyway, when Alphabet is researched, we should we should see what techs there are to be found on the market, and if monotheism is one of them, we could convert together with a revolution to Organized Religion.

I therefore suggest we convert State Religion to Hinduism right after researching Alphabet and doing the trades with techs to get Monotheism for Organized Religion, as well as Slavery. Then we also have enough forces to make a real difference, as well as getting initial war support (Declaration of War just after anarchy is over).

Sounds great to me, I think Provo's suggestion is good. When do we finish session 5 then?

I forgot about that. I'm in the same place as Dave.

So basically, if the Spanish don't build the Shrine first; success means we get it for free without waiting for a GP.
Otherwise our pick between more units at the Shrine and cities converted to Hinduism.

Very nice indeed.
