If i've understood right pitboss is civ4/warlords/bts in a persistent world, where you can log on and off whenever you like?

Anyway i wonder how does this work? i bought the game through steam, and the only game which seems to have pitboss is warlords? because thats the only shortcut within steam which show "launch pitboss" is i right click on the warlords game there. Shouldn't there be one for BTS as well?

Also what do i need to do to host a pitboss game and where do i need to go to join a pitboss game?

Thanks in advance!

under direct ip connection is where you most usually join/host a ptbs game. As for the steam version i heard there were loads of things that didn't work with that. ptbs might be one of them. Yes you can log on and off the pitboss whenever you want. Usually it is a timer so when the timer runs out of everyone have taken their turn it flips to next turn.

Which game do you own on Steam? All 3?

Check the directory where the game is installed. This will probably be under:
Program Files\Steam\steamapps\[username]\[something]

Hopefully that directory is laid out the same as the boxed version. You should see a "PitBoss.exe" in vanilla, "Civ4Warlords_PitBoss.exe" for Warlords, and something similar for BtS.

You should be able to just run one of those executables directly.

To host a Pitboss game, you need to run that Pitboss program on a dedicated computer with a constant internet connection. If you are behind a NAT or Firewall you'll need to open the proper port (2056?) in order for people to join it.

To join a Pitboss game, you simply launch the game (Warlords or Vanilla or BtS) and join it based on the "mode" in which it was hosted. Pretty much 99% of the time you should be hosting as "Direct IP" and therefore to join it, you simply select "Direct IP" from the menu in game and put in the IP address of the server you hosted it on.

Thanks for the answers!

Was able to find pitboss for both warlords and bts in the directory you mentioned, but i didn't find one for the vanilla game... hmm

There should be one; but it doesn't work. You can find a patch for it somewhere around here; but I doubt it's worth it as Vanilla isn't played much.
