I never like to get my tax rate get too high (because when I play English, or anyone, until I get Ben Franklin, I usually have to 'donate' to the 'Church' before they'll fully offer peace) and I need the income to build a good treasury in case of emergency (like needing to complete a building or ship/artillery really fast).
How high do/did you let your tax rate get?

I've come into the opinion that you should just hold tea parties rather than pay a tax, since the customs house streamlines goods through the boycott. If there was no way around the boycott, it would be a different matter.
