I'd like to start by saying what a great
site this is, and am glad to have found it.

Now, I always thought i was pretty good at Civ2, but after reading these posts, i'm just horrible! How do you people do it? How do you balance war and still have good science?
I usually use democracy and can't war anybody
until due to unhappiness, and if i change governments, science rate drops to over 10 turns per discovery!
And one last thing, Its possible to launch a space ship in B.C.???????

Many people here have played civilization for many, many years. So you learn and mecomes better with time I guess.

An easy way to handle military unhappines in Democracy is to build Shake's Theatre in a high sheild site and resupport your active military from there.Or use 1 unit from each city type thing.JS bach's can help also.

While you can build Apollo, you can't build spaceship parts before 1AD unless you are playing a scenario.

Collosus+Cope's+Sir Isaac=Super Science City.

Would you beleive it is easy to win at deity by spaceship with, and only ever having, one city?

One city? You're kidding right? Could you explain exactly how having one city can make it easy to win at diety?

I think this is a request from Civ1...therefore no deity.

I found that luxuries in well developed cities did the trick...but I can't remember real good, just it never seemed to be a problem to a great degree. Superiority at the point of contact -ie everything vs 1 city, take city get troopers inside.

No, re-read it is civ2

Deity...easy to control problems of troopers out of cities

1. luxuries
2. happy improvements e.g temples AND courthouses most importantly -happy guy
3. Police stations -or womens suff
4. attacking with mobile enough units to make 1 attack and then take the city -requires railroads or landings.
5. Entertainers -use them very early on.

Your cities have got to be large generally b4 democracy is the best government...don't do communism, I find your civ decays, so use republic till your empire can easily cope with democracy.

I have been playing for about 3 years, but have never gone above warlord, but thanks for the help, i might move up now

Zildane,

If you're looking to improve and win harder games, my advice is to dig around on the net -- there are many guides to playing that have lots of excellent strategies. The stuff here in the war academy is great, and there are a number of other useful documents floating around various web pages as well. I played my first game of civ in december (three months ago), and this weekend I just won my first game at emperor level, raging hordes, 7 civs, small map. If you've got a little time for reading, it's not too hard to do fairly well.

Go here .Study carefully.Check out some of the comparison tables for useful insights.D/L a few of the OCC saves and have at er.You can incorporate this into regular games.
1800s spaceship landings are par now.

The easiest way to improve is just to play. But play games that challenge you. If your okay at warlord then move up to prince and play it (you probably get whipped the first time) till you can hang in there till the end of the game. Then go back and play warlord..you'll notice how much you improved.

Now for tackling emperor and diety it's almost a must to read other peoples stategy guides. I was playing prince for a long time, but never got GOOD at king untill I learned that trade had a HUGE impact on the game. Especially the science half.

Good Luck, and Prosperous Civing!!!!

yes, beating deity is easy using occ. especially if you...edit the map

Yes, one city is the ultimate for scientific research, of course, it is amazing boring also and the city must be by the sea for trading purposes. To balance was and science I usually go for Fundy. I just conquer all the techs that my opponents get and actually under fundy I've been able to lower to discovery to every 2 turns, under democracy I can get discovery every turn or once I got 2 discoveries every turn. But there is no need for something like that as long as you keep significantly ahead in science you do just fine.
