How long are Cease Fires?

One of the things I HATE about the game is that between Great Wall and UN, my opponents won't sign treaties but just "Cease Fires". I hate that they can camp units next to my cities and there is nothing short of declaring war I can do to get rid of them. And the length of time a "Cease Fire" lasts seem variable tome, but I could be wrong. Suggestions? :(

If they're not stacked, send out diplomats/spies and bribe them. If you don't want them after they're yours, just disband them to add to the resources you're spending on whatever your next build will be.

Either that, or annoy them so much that they declare war on you. Then you can just attack them and (hopefully) get rid of them.

Send caravans or freights near their cities to cover diplomats/spies in those common tiles, for a sneak attack, contact them frequently(2-3 turns),they will demand things, refuse.

I vaguely remember this being a terrible annoyance when I hadn't understood the game. I do not know how long they last, usually until the AI is ready to attack. Suggestions? Read and employ the advice that is written here in the forum about strategy and it should be them who should be worried about someone breaking a cease fire...

Will do. Thanks for the help

I too find that annoying and as others have suggested I use bribery and provocation.

The other thing I find annoying is that when your rivals feel you are ready to get into the space race, all your peace agreements go away silently and even when you agree on new peace with a rival in a turn the next turn that goes back into cease fire. This can get pretty dangerous in OCC. Particularly when you have rival cities nearby. In one game, I had to pay a rival 1000g just to appease them for a few turns and not be decimated.
