...to destroy a city.

I had a plan to take out a civs capital city by nuking a near by city, and running in and taking it from their much more advanced army and then housing additional nukes there to nuke the capital to dust and hopefully win the game (we were the last 2 civs and there was NO WAY I could take them down with troops (they had a TON))

Anyway. I built 6 Abombs and 2 nukes, thinking that would be enough.

I used an abomb on the city first and it's "energy" bar went down about 75%... I was thinking this would work out nicely....

The next 4 boms I launched did next to nothing to the city and it wouldn't go down beyond that...

I launched the final a bomb and FINALLY it was destroyed when I launched the first nuke...
I launched my last nuke at the capital and it did (again) about 75% damage to the city...

This made me think nukes were better, perhaps, since it was the nuke that did any secondary damage to the city and finally destroyed it.

Frustrated... I reloaded (I don't normally do this) and launched the nukes first, hoping to take the city out and have a least some part of my plan...

First nuke... 75% damage...
2nd nuke,,,

... barely noticeable....

6 a bombs later... the city still stood...

I know damage is somewhat random but what city can withstand that kind of firepower??

Is there some diminishing returns damage system for re-bombing places or is this some sort of bug?

Hello. i am think its like when the abombs can to damge the towns? but what speak you means is when it cannot destory complete :)

Ah, so perhaps only the nukes can destroy the city...

So... A-bomb folled by nuke...
then.. A-bomb followed by nuke...

4 a-bombs unused...

Mayhaps I will test this

but remember the town main, (like london) can never to be gone completion, must remain forevr

Atomic bombs can only damage cities. Only nuclear missiles can wipe them off the map.

I have only used nuclear missiles in one game. I completely destroyed 2 cities in that game and both times it took 2 missiles to bring a full health city to a ruin. I have not tried this on capitals though.

Doesn't work on capitals, it will only reduce pop down to one as in previous civ games.

Yeah, it's in the manual...
a bombs can't destroy cities. Only nukes can.
Neither can destroy capitals. (mainly to prevent you from doing what you are trying to do... finish off a civ by nuking his capital, just too easy)

Personally I think the whole, take their capital and they are defeated for conquest vic, is crap. You might have one city, and they the rest of the map. One nuke in a sub and one giant robot embarked could take out a coastal capital and end that game. Maybe they should have made it you have to take the capital and hold if for 10 turns or something...

Yeah the way to make wiping out a Capital with a nuke doable, I think, is to remove the nuke immunity from Palaces.
