I usually don't finish my game because I know if I've won or lost 1/2-3/4 the way through the game. I start to loose interest and start a new game. So how often do you finish a game?

Probably about 50% of the time. If things are going badly I usually just quit. If I have a decent chance of winning I finish. I've lost a couple of games that way in a space race but that's about it.

I think a lot of us just assume we've got the game wrapped up because we have 50% of the population, 35% of land and lead the score by 2,000 points.

I used to do this until I realized that a lot of those games can still easily be lost through space race.

Now, I may end a game I'm hopelessly behind in, but a game isn't a win unless I see a victory screen.

I said 70%, btw.

Not as often as I should..the game can get very boring around the 1500's in a lot of games..i.e. all land squares developed as far as possible, all land settled...check diplo every turn, and then press enter for next turn ad nauseum...I often start wars out of boredom (not a good idea) or start a new game around this time

Interesting with only 21 votes in (Never finished a game  ) is leading, I wonder if that trend will continue.

I have a couple dozen saved games, and three games in the high score list, That should say something. Two of my finished games were score wins, the other a diplo win.

I seldom finish a game in a single session so it depends on my mood many times. Do I load a game or start a new one? Usually I load, but quite often (40% more or less) I don't. I don't play multiplayer, so it's just me and the PC. I think I might finish more games if I played multiplayer.

The only times I quit when I know for a fact i'm going to win in a few turns. If i'm down very badly, i'll scorch the earth so the AI wont win either.

Never finished a game yet, got it on release, cos i usually get bored about 1700. As Drewbledsoe says, i also usually start a war, its fun and it gives you things to do. Once i started a war with the entire planet just to see if i could hold them off.

Where is the satisfaction in never finishing a game?

I like The Sims and Sim City and sandbox-games like that, but to play Civ as a sandbox game? Not for me, I think...

I usually only finish HOF's or GotM's. In most single player games I either have won by 1500 or lost by 1500. I think it's tedious playing the whole game through since basically you're just hitting enter the whole time and managing build queues gets annoying. I usually get tired of hearing another 'granery' has been build in 1500. I wish there was a button that said 'build whatever, just don't bother me'.

I think I finished two games up to now: one space race victory and one diplo victory.
I very much like the build-up fase of the game. Most of the time I lose interest when I'm in the tedious end game. But if I played a very good game, I still try to wrap it up with a victory.

By the way, I answered 10%

100 % !!! Even if the result is clear and the victory is a cuestion of time, I love to see myself in the Hall of fame! :-)

Exactly. I especially dislike modern wars with tons of units, very tedious.

I'm in the rarely complete a game crowd. Games I think I will win I always play through to the end. But if I reach the middle part of the game and feel like I'm pretty far behind, I usually pack it in and start a new game. I can't face the idea of playing for at least another 3 hours just to see how much I lose by. Like others here, I find the beginning of a new game to be the most consistently exciting part (although a close race to victory is even better).
