How often do you make colonies?

rarely, only on OCC. Otherwise, no, because im a culture freak.

Scenarios only. If there's a resource out in the middle of desert or mountains and its pretty close to the capital, then I don't want a city there. Random maps rarely have huge swaths of desert and mountains but scenarios do.

Rarely. I only build colonies if I need some resource ASAP.

Of necessity - I play to conquer all, on a huge map with all the other civs set - so there are never enough cities to go round.

I do it sometimes. But only when my cities are really low in pop.

Then again it may be useful to some people. I can see it being useful when the AI is in no position to take the colonie.

If only you could use a worker to expand the colonie into a city. Hey, why not?

I will sometimes build a colony right before founding a city; (eg on a gems mountain) so I'll get the resource connected immediately without building a road.

gaah! - that's what i could have done last game and i would have gotten my first coal connected up three turns sooner. well you know what that means right? it means i need to start another game
