As is your spelling. ;)

Seriously, though, I have yet to successfully plant a spy. I have a related question -- why use spies? The only reason I can see for using a spy is to root out an enemy spy. I am not about to spend a 1K+ to plant a spy just to wipe out that civilization. Am I the only one who avoids spies altogether?

PLANTING a spy is essential for me in most games, though I rarely use them for any missions. Just having them in place gives you a report of their mil strength on the Mil Advisor screen. This is often very illuminating - just because they KNOW a technology doesnt mean they have the money or resource to upgrade/build to a newer unit.

Once they are there, they can come in handy now and then in emergencies to sabotage a spaceship part, steal a tech or whatever.

I use investigate city via the Emabassy a LOT though (saving the spy) to a) determine luxury and resource situation b) gov state c) treaury d) garrison for cities I am interested in attacking e) improvements to determine the level of bombardment to subject them to.

In the end, it is cheaper than rebuilding the bank, marketplace and so forth because you blasted them too much.

Build intelligence agency, click on the logo near that city and now you can plant a spy.

If it doesnt succed WAIT untill next turn, sometime it can take a few try and thus a few turn, my last game i was german and i try about 6 time to plant a spy into american democraty but it finaly succeed. Then i was able to look at their units through my military advisor screen.

1) Has anyone ever gotten military plans stolen. The AI stole my plans twice and then started to overrun me with tanks vs. riflement if a freaky AI move

2) Spies getting caught. I've never had spies caught before. I always catch them, but never vice versa

Happened once and I expect to see that again. I believe it is related with the AI's gold chest.

1) The French stole my plans twice and sabotaged my production three times within 10 - 20 turns.

2) The Persians and me were on a tight race after the above mentioned French were destroyed by me :D , and while building the space ship they caught my spies twice within 30 turns or so.

The second time I was about to invade Persia to stop their SS projects and whack... I lost my spy in the decisive turn. I was so mad that I searched for their spy ( and caught it), planted another spy (and succeeded) and stole them a techinology (also suceeded). It was a memorable day for the Central Iroquis Intelligence Agency.

I cant believe how much I have learned about this game in just a few hours. I was having trouble with spies...such as steeling another civ's world map and locating which units are in which cities...can anyone help me with that???

What kind of problem ?

1.- build intelligence agency.
2.- click on the logo near this city to try to plant a spy
3.- once you succed, go into military advisor screen, click units on a.i. display to see how much and which kind of units they got.

4.- To activate spy mission , click on the logo NEAR A.I. capital city.

5.- stealing plan let you see a.i. units on the map but it cost a lots, i think more units they got the more it cost.

6.- stealing world map ??? why , they will sell it to you easily

The best of spy is units information into military advisor screen.

I played as russian communists and i got spies in every nation except Zululand and Rome on my first try. If u got spy problems, go communist! ( I hate communists, they are only good for this... )
