How pitboss mode works?

Hello, I've read a bit about this but I'm not sure, if I host the game... I mean, I've read something about bad synchronizing in multiplayer, does this happen always? Even in beyond earth Civ Game or just in Civ5?

Any way to play multiplayer without errors?
