How to accelerate C2C ?

Hello guys,

I really LOVE C2C, it is just the best mod for Civ IV ever, and one of the best mods ever.

The thing is, I NEVER went past the Renaissance area, and know very few people who did. And the ones who did NEVER finished the game.

One of the reason is that it is too long.

I play at the fastest speed (Eternity) but I'm sorry, I don't have 100+ hours to finish a single game.

But 50 or even 66 hours will do, so I'm looking for ways to accelerate the game by 33% or 50%.

Is it something that I can do on my own, for example by editing some INI files ?

What makes you think "Eternity" would equal a fast game setting? :hmm: It is the SLOWEST one you could have chosen. Use anything else and research/construction etc. will take much less time.

However, if you mean the long turn times, that's a different issue.

Game speeds from fastest to slowest:
Normal is the fastest game speed setting, ~1001 turns.
Epic ~2000+
Marathon ~4,000
Snail ~6,000
Eon ~9,000
Eternity is the Slowest game speed, ~14,000 turns.

Eternity gamespeed games almost never ever get past 6,000+ turns before the player has won very decisively or quits to start a new game.

Snail is the "recommended" game speed, but in truth Marathon plays better.

I test on Normal and my favorite speed is Epic.

But as a member of the Modding Team even on these speeds I rarely finish a game because of testing thru the SVN and the Planned Changes that the Mod is still going thru.

Please try a game at Epic or Normal.

Thank you for playing C2C. :)

I don't have Normal and Epic options, just Eternity, Eons, Snail and Marathon (see screenshot attached).

Since Eternity is the first option in the menu I assumed it was the fastest.

So the question is, why I don't see the Normal and Epic options ?

Ok great, thanks for the answers !

I think I will enjoy this awesome mod even more !

May I suggest that for the next release, you put a more understandable explanation of each speed ? (the description that appears when you hover your mouse over the speed).

A simple sentence like "The SLOWEST speed in the game" over eternity would take 30 seconds to add and maybe save lifes ;)

I have actually argued for Eternity's removal or a turn reduction, but got voted down. :p

Map size makes a very big difference too, if turn times are getting out of control. Some computers just can't handle the largest maps.
