I would appreciate any and all help on this one. I am rather new at creating mods and have made a few minor changes to values and attributes and such in the editor.

I am stumped, however, as to how others have figured a way to increase the total number of units/improvements/techs/etc. over and above the current number in the editor. I know that some of the screens can prompt you to add, but how in the world can you create a new improvement or unit without simply changing a current one that you may well wnat to keep? How do you exceed the limit of existing improvements/units/wonders??????

Thanks in advance to all that reply for their generousity....

The regular editor will also add and delete. To use this hidden functionality use the "Rename" button and then hit "Cancel" on the rename box that pops up. If you then press the "a" key you will add a unit. If you press the "d" key you will delete the current item.

Before you start adding units, check out the tutorial from Gramphos in the tutorials section.

Thanks a million!!!!!!

A hacked editor???? Makes you wonder why Firaxis did not allow this option in the first place...not that I am one of those Firaxis bashers, I am not.

Yes, the hacked editor does have the Add/Delet buttons. However, to add in something so that it truely works, you need to download the Civ3Copy tool. The add button only adds in the entry, doesn't actually hard-code the additions you make into the .bic file like the copy tool does.

Correction - Gramphos did the Civ3Copy Tool (now called "MultiTool" I believe). The tutorial you should look for is from Plutarck.

I haven't noticed any problems with manually added items. I always use the tool to add units but have done improvements, governments, techs and others manually with no problems. Of course just because I haven't noticed any problems doesn't mean there aren't any. NightStorm, do you know what the dangers are to add manually instead of using the copy tool?

Like Lion said, alot of people have had problems with the game crashing by only using the editor...it may not have happened to you yet, but that doesn't mean it won't...the crashes are unpredictable...some people have the game crash after the first unit is built, first diplomatic contact, first future tech, etc. etc. etc...it is actually faster to use the copy tool...believe me, I know cause I am working on a mod that adds 25 techs and 27 buildings...

All of the unit and building related crashes I've read about were determined to be due to improper support set up in the civilopedia, icon files and pediaicon files or rarely the displaced icon bug (which will hopefully be fixed in 1.18). I hadn't heard of the others but thanks for the info. I guess I'll take the little bit of extra time to fire up the copy tool.
