I'm playing a game as the russians, and has just beaten the english in an early war, had a revolution, and changed to republic. As I build the Colossus, I enter a golden age. I don't want to have a peacetime golden age, I want to get it with my cossacks, so how do I avoid it? I've tried a couple of re-plays, to no avail. Do I have to build something else?

Just dont fight with your UU or build wonders that can trigger a GA.
Yep, and if you aren't willing to do that, you'll just have to have a golden age, I guess.

A Wonder can trigger a Golden Age, depending on what type of wonder it is and what your two Civ traits are.

Russians if I remember correctly have the traits, Expansionistic and Scientific. Therefore wonders like The Collosus, Great Lighthouse, Great Library, SETI, Newton's University, Maggelan (sure I misspelt a few there), have a chance of triggering your golden age.

Check the Civpedia for each wonder before building it, if you want to avoid a GA.

I played with the Russians, and I had only one golden age (when I built the Great Library). However, I finished many expansionistic and scientific wonders (Newton's University, Copernicus observatory, Magellan trip, and others). Is there only one golden age per game, o could be more?

To Isis: Yes there is only one golden age pr. game.

To Mrtn: Cant you just switch to another wonder instead of the Collossus?

Trying to clear things up: There can be only one GA per civ, and there is absolutely no random factors involved.

The GA is triggerde at the first possible opporunity, which is:
* If you win a battle against non-barbarians with your UU.
* If you finish a wonder, and now have wonders that covers both your traits.

The latter may need a bit more explanation: Whenever you finish a wonder, the game checks all your current wonders to see which traits they belong to. If you have wonders that belong to both your traits, your GA is triggered. This may be one single wonder that belongs to both your traits, or two different wonders. If you capture a wonder, that wonder's traits counts, but it isn't checked until you build yourself a new wonder. So even Shakespeare's that don't belong to any trait may trigger a GA if you have captured the necessary wonders.

Now that's something I didn't know.
